Is this a bad idea? Cycling in London at Le Weekend.

Hi All,

Could do with a spot of advice from London commuting/urban cycling types. As I'm training for a ride at the end of this month, I'm hoping to marry up a trip down to the capital this weekend with getting some miles under my belt.

So the plan is to ride from Euston to Twickenham which isn't far at all in terms of mileage and I've got a vague idea of a route...but I've never ridden in London before and is central London all a bit of a mess for bikes at the moment due to t'Limpics?

Another idea that I was thinking about was to drop down from Euston onto the Thames and then make my way to Twikkers river side...any good? I'll be cycling Friday early afternoon (the men's marathon is on Friday) and making the return trip at a similar time on Sunday.

Any thoughts?

It's a bit of a mess all the time!

Will be a slow journey through central London because of all the lights etc so don't think it would be that good for training but depends what you're aiming for.

A couple of things have popped up this morning which mean that I might give it a miss this time and do a run along the river on the Sat/Sun morning instead.

Your route looks good though (and pretty easy to follow) so next time I'm down I will give it a whirl.

I don't know how experienced a cyclist a cyclist you are, but as a reminder: ride visibly. On city streets it's far easier for cars/taxis/buses to miss you. Take the lane whenever you feel you need to, and for the love of Lycra, don't ride up the inside of HGVs or buses.
