Leaving a bike out in the elements

Hi guys,
I have recently started cycling to work. Unfortunately work does not have any kind of sheltered accomodation for bicycles. The best I can do is to U-lock it to some railings and remove the front wheel. Security wise I am not too concerned as the bike is kept right under my office window.

My main concern is leaving the bike out in the rain all day. What protective measures can I take to ensure the bike doesnt 'seize' up.
I have a good selection of chain lubes, light oils for the cables and shifters.
Will a weekly strip down and relube be enough? (bike only covers 20miles a week)

Finally, is there anything i can do to the forks to stop them rusting/squeaking/becoming contaminated?

I should be able to keep a bike tarp here. Il have to check with the porters that i can store it outside somewhere.
Can anyone recommend one type/brand in particular?

Just give everything that may rust a light coat of oil. That should stop it.

Look for a product called ACF50, will keep your bike looking new even if left out in the elements.

You'll inevitably get fasteners rusting but better stainless steel ones don't cost much, just replace as you go. Keep the chain well lubed and give it a proper clean every so often. Make sure things that are packed with grease (hubs, headset, etc) don't dry out.

Generally though they're pretty waterproof, especially if they're in daily use and looked after. The ones that seize up are the ones left out in the rain without moving for months on end.

IME bikes don't mind being outside as long as they get used. If it's being ridden every day and kept inside when it isn't, you should be fine.
