Riding away from traffic lights, astravan with a trailer in front slows and indicates left. It's a narrow road, traffic speed is low, so quick shoulder check, overtake when safe, easy peasy.
Not so much for the cyclist just behind who tries to go up the inside. Suprise! He nearly gets t
tted.
Frankly, I am a massive wuss with a pathological aversion to meddling in the affairs of others, confrontation and making a scene. But I can't help thinking, if he appears in the newspaper I'm not going to think 'well, respecting his privacy was worth it then'.
So. Should I have? Apologies if this has been done to death already/starts a flamewar.

Depends on the rider:
Child? - DEFINITELY
Teenager? - Probably, depending on age/attitude
Teenage Chav? - Probably not, more likely to get sworn at
Young professional? - Probably not, old enough and intelligent enough to know better
Middle aged? - Probably not, see above
Retired? - Maybe, they might not be used to the ways of the road if taken up cycling recently, may benefit from a polite heads up
Elderly? - Probably, see above
Foreign? - Probably, see above (if likely to understand)

I find a big grin and 'phew that was close, your lucky' has a better response and will still make them think about what they didI'd like to think I would say something. "be careful mate" or something.
The other day I overtook a guy on the Euston Road and stopped at the next lights.
He rode past me, and stopped a bike length in front of me, only for me to pass him again withing 20m or so.
This happened 3 or 4 times. The final time, as I passed him I did say something along the lines of, "You can see I keep passing you, why do you go past me at the lights?" He moaned a bit so I reminded him I'd had to pass him several times and each time had to go out into traffic. Didn't hear what he said after that...
So I'm not backward at coming forward. Although I do try to do it diplomatically.

I have shouted/screamed the very same sentiment to several un-witting potential Darwin award candidates. Don't want to watch someone die. Especially after reading that redit account the other week.
