So after a week of trying to decide what to buy , i finally decided on saturday to mail order a bike from westbrook cycles. Having never even ridden a road bike before i must say i was slightly worried but that worry soon changed to excitement when i recieved a text to say my bike had been delivered at 3pm yesterday. Only problem was that i was stuck 30 miles away on a training course. I was itching to leave , and once they said im free at 4pm i literally raced home up the M1.

The bike arrived very well packaged, it literally took me 30 mins to remove all the bubble wrap, foam and tie wraps. I then set about building it up which was very similair to a MTB so not too hard. The brakes took some working out, and removing the big plastic disc behind the cassete was a nightmare.

After setting up the bike the best i could , i had my tea then went out. It took several attempts to gett the seat at the right height, and the bars at the correct angle. First impressions was pretty good. I felt comfortable withing 2 minutes, and couldnt believe how fast the bike rolled. A completely different world to a MTB even with fast rolling tyres. I must admit im struggling with the SPD-Sl pedals compared to normal spd's, but im sure ill get used to it. Did about 20 miles of quite hilly riding, and came home with a big grin. I did have a few moments as the steering is very very twitchy, and not what i used to. Nearlly fell off in front of a bus stop full of blokes whilst looking over shoulder. My confidence at anything above 30mph is low, as on a mTB im not bothered until i get to 40mph +. But im sure ill be fine

My front mech is slighlty out, so i need to sort that. ( i hate sorting gears) , but apart from that its brilliant. Hoping it stays sunny as im off tomorrow, so hoping to do a good run out. My aim to do 100km within a month of today.

Bike is a cannondale supersix 105 team replica.

A lovely bike, my brother has one in black. He was a bit shocked when I mentioned the recent discounted price that they were doing them for. smile

yeh at £1350 it was a bargain. I was gonna see if they dropped more but i was afraid of my size disappearing as 56cm must be quite common

Is the plastic disc supposed to come off? I think mine is still on.

The plastic disk is there to stop you putting the rear mech into the spokes if you overshift, but providing the limit screws on the rear mech are set correctly you can bin it

Keep at it smile

re. your front mech. What's up with it? By any chance are you encountering the "trim" whilst being unaware of it? Caught me out at first...

Hi, I've sorted the mech now. I read the online tutorial and all perfect now.
