My New Machine, The Cube Peleton Race

Well, after ordering it the day before I went on my holidays, was a long week while I knew it was on its way. Due to being very popular, seemed to spend most of my last day instead of packing trying to find one !!! I found 2 left in the UK, so that makes one more in 58 cm at Ludlows Cycles. Bought through Leisure Lakes, who wouldnt discount it , being a 2012 model and the new ones coming in this month, as ' could sell them 100 times over' according to them. But I wanted it and pleased I did get it.
I was offered a Spesh Allez for a good price from our local dealer, which I turned down and a Cannondale , which I didnt really like. So, I get back off of holiday and spend 4 hrs just really sorting the bike out. Stripped all the brake and gear cables out and redid them, to get rid of the horrid mess of cables between the bars. Nicer shifting, although have ordered some Dura ace cable inners to swop over and teflon coated inners for the brakes, as they seem a bit un smooth ( me being fussy)Found the BB was too much pre load on the cranks, so did that. Went rummaging in the loft, found my old pedals and some new cleats. Had to strip and regreased the spindles as the pedals were stiff. Then chucked them on. New Spesh shoes, which are very nice, fit computer and went for a ride.
Went to meet my mate, who turns up on the Spesh Allez I was looking at !!! He never said a word. First impressions after 30 miles.
1. Rides very well, actually very impressed. Quite a long top tube, 20mm more than the same size spesh. Will see if I get used to it, if not a slightly shorted stem will go on.
2/ Climbs great. Was thinking it may be more work than my carbon lightweight Colnago for a long while ago, but never really struggled and spun well. Nice and stiff in the frame and the carbon forks work to get rid of berkshires rubbish roads.
3/ On the flat and slight decents, very stable at speed. Managed 41mph on a descent,ran out of gears. It only has a 50 front chainring and 12 tooth rear on the cassette.
What it needs?
Not a lot. Got back, tweeked the saddle. Found the bolts for the cleats making the insole lift and a bit uncomfortable, so filed those down. Have ordered some copter tape to protect the frame, as ran out, so used carbon wrap on the headtube.
May change the cassette for an ultegra to give me an 11 tooth and also the standard Tiagra is quite a lump, so save a few grammes. Other than that, really pleased with the package.
