Bike insurance
Discussion
Looking to collect my new bike at the end of the month and would like some insurance set up for it. I have checked cycleguard.co.uk and also through my British Cycling membership which is a much better deal.
I would like it insured whilst it sits in the garage during the week and at night, accidental damage on the road and also for sportives but not road/track racing.
Does anyone insure their pride and joy and if so with whom. I will contact my home insurance company and see if it can be added as a specified item.

as i said on the other thread, i'm fast getting to the point whereby bike inusrance is a con. just stick £200 of kryptonite locks around it all and its safe enough, it not like you wouldnt be locking them up in the garage/shed anyway. three big locks will be enough to put them off and and if they are >£1500 are you really going to leave them out of sight when you're o na ride or something?
would be interetsing to know if anyone else is of a similar mindset?

All well and good Pablo but this does not cover you when the bike is unlocked and being used away from its usual storage place. Cycleguard also offer cover for accidental damage during the bikes use.
I was just wondering if other people with expensive bikes bother to insure them or not. Put it another way you wouldnt buy a car and not insure it, apart from the fact you have to by law.

i appreciate that but how often do you honestly leave £1500 worth of bike unlocked, out of sight away from its "usual storage place?..... i only insure mine because a few people around bristol have been mugged whilst cycling, a few guys come up to them or jump out onto the road, knock you off the bike and one of the others rides it off...

I've always been of this view. All my expensive bikes are either in the house or ridden on round trips. The cheap one could easily be replaced if stolen so I'm not too bothered about that. The jumping point is a fairly good one, but I don't ride the expensive ones anywhere I can really be jumped. What sort of premium would you be looking at to insure £1k of mtb and £2.5k of roadie for the use you are proposing?would be interetsing to know if anyone else is of a similar mindset?
