Got my first 'proper' bike a couple of weeks ago, a free Kona Hoss 2007 smile
It cost me zilch but needed a new bottom bracket fitted (brand new one came with bike), new chain and rear sprocket as well as a few other things but I didn't grudge paying it as the bike was free!

It left me stranded about 10 miles from home at the weekend though as the bolt holding the peddle in place came loose somewhere along the line! Still tryna get hold of a replacement bolt, the bike shop said they don't stock them. It needs a new seat but I'm skint so had to make do with tying a random seat on for now, it'll be fine for now as I haven't done any 'big' rides yet, needs a proper seat that I can actually set a bit higher soon though..

I'm running maxis 26x2.1 tyres pumped up to 65psi at the moment but when I've got money I'd like to buy a set of spare wheels with semi slicks.

Definitely starting the get the bug now, just need to get a proper seat then I can do some longer rides!

If you need a saddle that won't break the bank try the Charge Spoon. Pretty much universally good reviews. I fitted mine before a 600 miles to Paris without breaking it in and found it very good indeed.

Show us a photo of the missing bit. Got lots of bits floating around in the bike bins.

My spoon was £6 from eBay. It's done me well on the mtb and has recently been transplanted to my roadie where is also plenty comfy. Highly recommended.

Waiting for two m15 bolts to arrive as one fell out of my bloody peddles!
I've seen a charge spoon for sale on eBay with a 27.2mm carbon seat post, what's it worth roughly?

Got the M15's and a seat/seatpost.. I'm ready to rock and roll and start putting some miles in! smile
I would say I'm fittish but not an athlete by far. How long does it take before my legs become accustomed to say a 15/20 mile ride?

It doesn't get easier, you just get faster =)
I'm a stone lighter now and 40% faster than first ride 2 months ago. I sort of enjoy the pain of a hill now, still hurts like burning, but much faster...

That makes sense to me. Eventually I'd like a speedo to see average speed etc so I can see improvements smile

I'm going to start riding to meet my mate for a lift to college 3 days a week and it's about 17 miles there and back...

If you have a phone with gps, get strava. Wonderfully motivational, every ride is a race - not only with strangewrs, but key is you're always racing yourself.

I use a blackberry / gps logger II, then upload to strava.com manually - you don't need iphone / android =)

Just downloaded strava, looks great and so simple to use. I'll try it out later as I'm not sure how good the gps signal will be round here...
