What winter tyres for the rain on a road bike?

Looking to replace a set of tyres that came on my road bike, not really up on whats good or not as used to mountain bike stuff.

I am looking for some that don't cost the earth but still are reasonabley good, not for 100's of miles per ride but reasonable.

My Giros puncture every 5 minutes. Maybe just my bad luck. Anyway, you don't actually need a season-specific tyre since wheels this narrow will cut and grip through any puddle.

ETA: Do you need tubular or clincher tyres?

Narrow wheels are better. The thinness of the tyre makes no difference to grip but thicker tyres may help puncture resistance.

So the tyres on my bike now are 700 25c. I take it the 25 bit is the how thin they are. May sound a simple question.

The Halo tyres are 24c, thus meaning they are better?

Looking into it the Continental tyres will not fit a normal road wheel so tehy are out.

Any other recomendations?

I always found that Stans works well for puncture resistance. The only time it let me down was a 10-12mm long gash in one of my tubes. Even still it gave it a damn good go and probably slowed the rate of uninflation somewhat! In other words it didn't go off like a gunshot!

I know that they are 50% over your stated budget, but these http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=contine... are excellent winter tyres. I can't recommend them highly enough. 1700+ miles through last winter, they came off the bike to reduce weight for the summer, but are boxed in the garage to be re-fitted for the coming winter. Ride well, grip well, excellent puncture resistance. When I wear mine out, I'm going to re-order another set. At £22 extra on your budget, justify it as the cost of 7 pints (or less).

Do you need special tyres for winter? (will it be any wtter than Summer?) if so i have just bought these Halos for a Bike-Build I am doing for my daughter, would probably fit the bill...
