Assos Bib Shorts - just how good are they?

I am in the market for a new pair of Bib Shorts are my current ones are beginning to show their age and mileage.
Having bought cheap shorts in the past (and suffered many a painful ride as a result), I don't mind spending a bit to get a well made pair that will give me many hours of comfort while grinding away in the saddle.
Assos have a reputation as being the gold standard, so I would be interested to hear the views of those of you who use them, or have found a better alternative?
Almost all of my current kit is Northwave, which I get on well with - but I fancy a change.

Depends which Assos shorts you are referring to
The Assos FI.Mille S5 are pretty much the same as Rapha's Classic bibs in terms of fit and padding
The FI.Uno's have less padding up front round the ol' fella and are a bit more tight fitting

Interesting - I find myself in exactly the same position.
I had some castelli aero bib shorts which have been great for a year, but as my only pair of shorts they really have not worn well - they're now far from white and looking aged.
I bought a couple of Rapha tops in the sale and am over the moon with them - they really are brilliant - however I'm nervous to spend £150 on the shorts.
And so considered Assos.

Still struggling, and the bikes I keep looking at get more and more expensive! Currently head over heels in love with the Wyndymilla Massive Attack (not so head over heels in love with the price though)......

I slightly prefer Assos over Rapha for comfort, which puts them at the top of the tree for me (followed by any Castelli that come with the Kiss3 pad).
I do find that Assos wear out a lot quicker than the Rapha though. At first I thought this was due to getting more use, being my most favoured, but after keeping track of the wear and use since noticing, the Assos definitely get to that transparent/sheer stage more quickly.
Also worth noting that Wiggle's top DHB shorts come with the same Cytech pad that come with the Rapha bibs. Can't say how the rest of the bib stacks up though.

Visited the NEC bikeshow yesterday and had a look at the assos mavic and moa bibshorts for my trip to Tenerife next week,but ended up buying a pair of Lusso progel and carbon bibshorts for under the price off the assos ones,
I've had a set off Lusso progel's for over 3 years and these are the only shorts I've had that the seat has not gone flat!
Super comfy and made in the Uk
