What Road Shoes £50 - £80

Hi,

Bit of advice about road shoes required. I almost bought a pair of the cheapo muddyfox shoes today but though better of it.
Can anyone suggest a decent shoes in my price range. Theres both Specalized and Shimano but which is considered better?

I've always had spec, but I'd imagine there's not much in it tbh. Try some on, and go for what you find fits best. When getting new road shoes I went with the hope I'd find mavics comfy.. But didn't, so spec it was again!

I've hrard many good things about the DHBs mentioned above. Although shoe fit is a very personal thing, so may be worth biting the bullet and paying high street prices, wherein you'll get a chance to try them for fit first

Aside from the above, however, I run Northwave (Typhoon?) SBS jobbies. They've been fine for the past couple of years.

I've got quite small feet, but they're also quite wide. A lot of cycling shoes are relatively narrow. I measure as a 6, normally wear a 6.5 to 7, but my Shimano cycling shoes are a size 9 just to get the width at the toe box. You'll also find, just as with 'regular' shoes, that some manufacturers will come up slightly different despite all being labelled as the same size. Best bet is to find a shop with a good selection of shoes from a number of manufacturers, and spend some time getting the fit right. The good thing is that if you buy a decent shoe, it'll usually have two or three fastening straps, or an adjustment wheel, so there's plenty of scope for tweeking the fit once you've got the right shoe.

I've got the Shimano R087 and really find them comfortable. I'm a UK 11 in normal shoes but had to go for a European 48 (quite big) in the cycling shoes, so they can come up quite small - worth noting (I bought in local bike shop so could try on).

They were £80.

I like them because of the wratchet they have, rather than just pure velcro. And they're white and I have a white bike

+1. I paid £60 for them. I had DHB R1's previous to it but they were too narrow.

I'd personally recommend trying shoes on because I struggled with the R1s for a while and ended up damaging a nerve in one of my feet and kept getting numbness in the other. With the R087s theyre simply brilliant for the money.

Another +1 for Shimano shoes here. They are in my experience bombproof. I've got some RO77's AM45's and some MO86's and for the money are unbeatable. My MO86's just keep going and going I've tried killing them but they just shrug off filth and heavy use. Ignore the shoe snobs and spend your saved money on stuff for your bike.

Bought some RO87s today for just under £60.

On a related note. Do Shimano shoes (M077 in this case) give a little with age? I ordered some in the wrong size, got them replaced with larger ones and have noticed that on the replacement ones, later in the day they feel almost a bit too snug. Not sure if I'll be able to return these ones so was hoping they'd be OK down the line.

I don't wear Shimano shoes, but I have heard many times that they are a bit on the narrow side, so that might be why they are feeling snug.

The perfectly adequate grey shoes costing a tenner less were thrown back at the shop assistant followed by comments from the wife about handbags matching shoes and how we're just as bad as them.
