Can you get Lycra type water proof leggings and the like?

just been to my LBC and the only water proof trousers they had were big baggy things!

What do you wear to keep warm and dry?

Tights. Not ladies, see Wiggle for Roubaix tights. Bib tights are the way to go.

Thanks. I have tights, cheap Karrimor jobs bought last year but I find them a bit absorbent. Is the key word there 'cheap'?

What exactly are you thinking...is it bib shorts with tights you want, or are you thinking leg warmers or knee warmers?

Unless it's MEGA cold, then knee warmers with normal bib shorts i find work well - because you can then have 1 expensive pair of bib shorts for summer and winter, rather than a nice pair for winter that you'll never use in summer, if that makes sense?!

I just want to keep my legs warm and the only time they get cold is when the tights are saturated but I don't want a pair of sails wrapped around my legs.

Are you using mudguards?

Currently using the Castelli Nanoflex knee warmers, been very impressed with them, ideal for warming up in, then just slide them off, they claim a degree of water proofness for the Nanoflex material.

I've got the Nanoflex arm warmers which are great at beading the water. Not cheap, but good quality.

Im not too sure about leg warmers. They tend to slide down, and I think the knee warmers look a bit odd.

To a degree (geddit? I'm here all week). However, looking after your knees when the temperature drops is paramount.

A decent pair of leg warmers will do you for all but the coldest days.

I don't recall one (though there probably is!) however, I can see where BadgerBenji is going with this...I have my mudguards on now (put them on at the weekend) and NOT having rain pelt up from your front tyre up your legs really is far more relaxing, and not having your bum covered in water from the rear tyre just as much so. It does make a big difference

I'm currently experimenting with knee warmers and leg warmers (odd weather here in Kent at the moment - sometimes cold, sometimes wet, sometimes sunny!) and I think arm/knee warmers in addition to your regular bib shorts will work great.

Not really a fan of knee warmers, especially when the fabric bunches up. Arm warmers is a different matter

I've just bought a pair of Lusso Max Repel bib tights, they have a water resistant finish and good insulation to keep you warm.

They're designed to be worn over your normal shorts / bib shorts.

Wore mine for the first time on Sunday and they are comfy, fit me well and kept me warm in the breezy conditions.

I've just been out for an hour and although my legs got wet, it was the cold toes that were the most uncomfortable aspect. Still, I'll be wishing for cold toes this time tomorrow when I'm sat on a helicopter heading out into the North Sea!

It's like reading posts from a bunch of women talking about which handbag is best.

I've been wearing the £6 jobbies from Sports Direct for the last 2 winters. I have 2 pairs and alternate them as they're being washed. They keep me warm, are comfortable and are cheap. There was one ride home from work last winter where the temp gauge on my bike computer told me it was -8 degC and I wore both pairs for extra warmth. They don't have a trendy Italian brand name on them of course.

If there isn't, then there should be a 'rule' about this
