MTB Storage options?

Hi Everyone,

I've recently purchased a MTB to try and get into it a little, and to keep fit. So far so good.

However, storage is now an issue.

I live next door to the ASBO family. And unfortunately the son is of the age where his mates, being the local chavs/hoodies/moped riding asbo collecting morans, are descending on the house, and around quite a lot.

Now my initial plan was to store the bike in my shed, with a decent lock, but I really don't think that's good enough now, they'll just take it as soon as they know it's in there. And as it's right down the end of the garden they can make a fair bit of noise and I wouldn't know.

So my other options as I see it are, buy another storage shed/container. But they seem pretty damn expensive for a wheelie bin height structure! Unless there is dedicated bike containers?

Or I keep on doing what I'm doing now, and that's keeping it in my dining room. It's not ideal, and I've only been riding in the dry so as not to bring in wet and dirt. But I plan to ride through winter, and also take on some light trails too. Mud into house is not a good mix, even if I clean it after every ride, it's still going to be dripping water everywhere!

Is there not some sort of tarpaulin bag thing I can get? So as to catch any drips and not put them on the floor?

I'm not sure what to do, so advice welcome.

I wouldn't keep it outside AT ALL.

Have you considered insurance? As soon as the chavs see something decent...consider it gone.

Make sure doors and windows are always locked as well! If they are as bad as you make out, one or two may have a baghead uncle that's taught them the ways of burglary...

I had my bikes stolen out of my garden shed a few months ago. In fairness I was rather blasé about them. I live in a nice quiet village and so left £3k of MTB in the garden shed with just spindly cable locks connecting the 2 bikes to each other and a £10 padlock on the door with them fully visible through the window! Since this happened the bikes were replaced by the Insurer...I have amended the security. I now have a security bar under the floor with 2 secure anchor points up through floor. I got this from one of the shed world type online stores. I also invested in 2 Motorbike type Kryptonite 'Fabregas' locks at around £120 each. I then put a load of heavy nails through the wooden joins of the shed and window frames, and Hinge Bolts too. The finishing touch was a £50 security padlock from B&Q and also used some sticky-Velcro to attach an internal window cover. I finished the project off with a couple of solar security lights and gravel area all around the shed! This was an expensive investment, but since then the bikes have been safe and secure...if somebody wants them now they will be taking a big risk and will have to make a lot of noise.!..

Unfortunately they are as bad as I make out. Police have been to the address nurmerous times regarding different things. Normally anti-social behaviour. Today, I noticed that the son had removed the numberplate from his Peugeot moped, and just bolted it to this Aprillia that has now turned up. After doing searches on the net it says it is neither taxed, or insured. I report things to the Police regularly, including this today. They've done nothing.

I also don't want them to know that I report things so try not to report literally everything, just what directly affects me, or I consider a more serious offence.

Anyway BOT. Hallway not an option as I don't have one.

And wow, that's a lot of security on that shed of yours, don't blame you for doing it, and hope nothing goes walkies again!

Insurance, yes, got a quote of just £30, so will be doing that tomorrow.

So I think so far inside is a definite, its just what else I can do to make it more practical having it in the house.

concrete a ground anchor into the shed, then using a hefty hefty length of chain in an old inner tube lock it all down with a sliding post padlock. Keep the seat/post inside. This is enough for motorbikes, should keep your bike safe too.....
