I'd go with that, its not exact but there isnt really an equivilent to 2300 for either Campag or Sram and there are issues like Sram only having four groupsets and Apex is very good despite being the bottom of the range so to speak. trying to rank it all is pretty pointless as there are subtlties to all three that set them apart. Sram everytime btw!

I would say Athena is a lot closer to Ultegra than Centaur is (damn fine group set by the way).

The reasin I ask is that the 2012 Cinelli Experience is priced evenly for the Sora and Veloce models.

just had a look and found a few for about a grand which is ok, you will probably pay a premium for the name and yes there are marginally better spec'd bikes for similar cash but if its what you want then go for it because its as much about gettinga bike that makes you happy that you want to ride and take pride in owning as it is about getting the best for your money. it gets a good review here:

Yes, with my 12% BC doiscount Wiggle do them for well under £900.

Also the carbon model Saetta looks good, interestingly the 2013 model is cheaper than the 2012.

I'd definitely rate Veloce higher than Sora, Veloce is very similar to the non carbon version of Centaur and apart from being 10 speed as opposed to 11 speed, not very different to Athena. I'd say it's much closer to 105 in terms of quality, features and weight.

My GF has Veloce on her bike.

Despite constant attention (and cost - she takes it to her LBS, regularly) she hates it with a passion. Having ridden it recently to see what the fuss is about, it wasn't that bad but it is certainly not in the same class as 105 or Rival. Paddle pressure is much higher and the change is much slower, especially on the front mech. With regards to buttons on the hoods for downshifts, give me double taps any day... or a lever I can reach from the drops.

She had a 105 bike at Riccione earlier this year and loved it and recently rode my bike, which has Rival. Her Veloce equipped bike is now on borrowed time.

Got SRAM Rival and Campag Veloce (old though, probably about 15yrs old!) and both work fine and have done for hundreds of miles once set up correctly. I found that the rear derailleur cable was routed incorrectly at the bolt on the derailleur (it went over or round the little washer "thing"!). Once changed and correct, shifting was nice and reliable, before that it was a pain and always playing up.

I'd guess Rival edges it for me, but it should as its alot newer (for me at least in what i have) and as you say in the drops the shift lever is easily accessible.

For some reason i dont like Shimano, i wife has 2300 on her Allez and i dont like shifting with the brake lever! Also braking and the lever will move slightly to the left (or right for the other lever) which feels rather odd.
