Well we know what week of the month she's on. Sadly there is a difference between a 'cyclist' and ' someone who rides on pavements, jumps lights and goes to work on a bike infrequently' Unfortunately in some peoples eyes, we all get stuffed in the same bag.
Ironically we had 2 front riders indicate with arms aloft to go left off road last Sunday and we met a barrage of abuse from a passenger in a car at the junction opposite, because the driver didnt see 2 ' brightly coloured' arms pointing left. Bless the country.

This makes for an interesting contrast to the bile and bilge in the Express and Mail.

And the first comment in intersting too - that the Dutch bike culture is so successful simply because it isn't a culture, just everyday folk going about an everyday activity, which therefore doesn't perpetuate the them and us mentality we have over here.

But with the mainstream media still hell bent on marginalising cycling even more than it is already we have a long way to go. Hell, I bet if those articles were posted in the News, Politics and Economis section of PH you'd have the majority agreeing with them. And that War on Britain's Roads thing on Wednesday ain't going to help either.

It's like the Olympics and TdF never happened isn't it?

The Express journalist describes in another article how her mother drank herself to death and as a result, the daughter is now tee-total so I assume that there are "issues" that go way beyond her mother giving the occasional deflated tyre a good pump...

Other than it's obviously written to garner a response, I can't actually argue with anything she's saying when you look beyond some of the stereotyping. The standard of cycling in inner cities is generally appalling, and I challenge anyone not to have witnessed any of the acts she references: riding on the pavement, jumping lights, wrong way down a one way street, etc.

Cycling reflects life, and in both there are wkers of the highest order.

It's the choice of wording that is so grating. "Cyclists jump red lights" as opposed to "Some cyclists". It stops the article being true.

I've posted similar in the thread about the War on Britain's Roads programme on tonight, but I do not want to be tarred with the same brush as the minority of cyclists who flaunt the laws of the road. I do not want the judgement of the driver trying to overtake me being compromised by a belief that I'm another one of 'those bloody cyclists' which articles like this encourage.
