Bicycle barn finds

Just bought this old girl from the girlfriends ex mother in law. £50 and she's come up an absolute treat.



Spent a couple of hours cleaning and accessorising for my daughter's Christmas present and I think she looks very tidy. Bloody well made these old BSA's and it rides proper retro



If I didn't know that it was going to spend the rest of its life being thrown on the ground, left out in the rain and generally abused I'd have treated her to a Brooks to make it look proper old skool.

There is just something so wrong about paying £50 for the mother in laws saddle .

saw a Peugeot Premiere at the bottom of the metal section at a tip today, could have probably been saved and would have made a good "pub bike" but there was too much on top of it. Nothing else that special but loads of good condition bikes and frames in there, quite surprising really.

My bike's in the shed. I had it at 11 in 1982. Next to it is my dad's bike which he had at 11 in 1944.

Not exactly barn finds but covered in dust - at least they're dry.

Is it OK to ride bikes on cracked up tyres?

If it's from 1944 it's gotta be worth spending money on some new tyres... And a Brooks

I haven't got any photographs but I'll dig it out when less cold. It's a Raleigh (but one of the good ones) with Rudge mudguards and a Brookes saddle. It's not rusty (chrome was good in those days) and has original but faded paint. He's thinking of selling but not sure the best place or value. The frame has a slight bend (only in the vertical plane) from running into something when it was only a few weeks old.

He road it all the way from Hull to London to see the 1951 exhibition and down to Cornwall so it's done many thousands of miles.

Mine isn't special but the freedom of passing your test at 17 doesn't come near the freedom of your first proper bike. I had a Raleigh Commando before that one. Parents just haven't got a clue where you are from that point on

Interestingly both bikes were £40 new.

Probably, they were always the best.

My brother had a Moulton until it was stolen. Now they were brilliant.

Little wheels meant less gyro so it was twitchy and you could get the back end out. What more could you want?
