We have a pretty big and nasty old hill called Norwood Edge near us in-between Otley and Harrogate. It rises 541 feet over one mile.

The fastest Strava time currently is 5:45, and trust me, that is some going. It took me about ten minutes last time I went up it a couple of months back.

I was rummaging about and found some old certificates from when I was racing nearly thirty years ago. In particularly, the one when I won the club hill climb up this very hill.

Basically, twenty eight years on, I still come in at seventh fastest!

In thirty years of training technique improvement and advances in equipment... they have only managed to take 26 seconds off my time.

Pleased? Bloody proud as punch with that I am smile

That's excellent going!

The one thing I'd ask is where exactly does the strava segment stop/finish, as it might not be the same as where your racing was? typically though the racing may actually be longer!!!

Nice work biggrin

I know it well - it's on my normal weekend route! Best time of 7:44 but I ride from Gildersome to reach that so usually have about an hours riding in the legs by that point. Would love to give it a proper go one day, but it's a bloody tough climb. The first steep bit just destroys your legs for the remainder of the climb if you set off too quickly.

6 minutes is seriously rapid. My target for next year is to get sub 7 minutes.

Nice one OP! Sounds like a real bugger. Incidentally the person in 8th on your Strava list I rode with at the weekend in a local Sportive ride. We finished in the lead group together. He's as strong as an ox and makes his debut for UK Youth Procycling team this season

And yours was in an individual TT; I imagine quite a few strata times are achieved by riders in groups.

Tejvan has been National Hill Climb champ a couple of times, so I suspect he wasn't going at it full pace because he would smash most people to absolute bits. The power of those riders shows that you obviously were doing well back then with a heavy bike etc. Be interesting to see how heavy those blokes are, 400w for 6 minutes isn't bad, but would imagine they would have to be pretty light for it to be really impressive. Tejvan can certainly do more watts for 5 minutes than I can and weighs in the 60's for sure, he was the fastest up Box Hill for quite a while, so would imagine he wasn't going full gas.

http://app.strava.com/activities/30398515#52670294... - he still is. I would imagine he does 480-500w for 5 mins, Dan Lloyd is a pro, and his time was done as part of the Olympic warm up RR, few other pro's on that page too, sadly I've slipped from the first to 2nd page with a load of recent uploads, but its still nice to know how you fare etc.

All this talk of wattage is more Dutch than Hennie Kieper I'm afraid. I have no idea of what to compare it to. I can say that Julian Varley at No 10 on the list is fifteen and as heavy as a wet flannel. His father is annoyingly good too biggrin
