Boris Bikes about to double in cost

Now I've never used one, probably never will, but what a way to encourage others... double your prices in one hit.

Not the same at all. You don't see many people running a couple of miles accross London in a suit holding a breifcase. I'm saying this based on how I use them and how I see them being used. I know people who've stopped taking the tube or bus from a hub station to whereever their office is. And I see a lot of people dressed for the office using them to get around during the day. It's quicker than walking and easier than running.
I think I read somewhere that they basically need to raise more revenue to improve and expand the scheme further.
I'd rather that was done through people using them and who will therefore get the benefit of the expansion, than the general taxpayer, many of whom never go to London and none of whom have any similar place in their own towns and cities.
It may well also be the case that it was deliberately underpriced in the first instance to ensure people used them and got to know about it and it was seen as positive and not embarrassing and a massive failure.
As to whether or not it still offers good value, I can't really comment as I have my own bike to move about but can see the advantage of not having to use public transport and not having to lock a bike up somewhere/flexibility to make single direction journeys etc. £90 for a year doesn't sound too bad for a regular user, £45 sounds ridiculously cheap.

shhhh, you'll give them ideas...though that's to use new, purpose-built infrastructure, not existing roads, and is fairly pie-in-the-sky anyway.
Any plans to integrate oyster cards into the boris bike scheme yet?
