Oh now we're talking. I love these, i'm coming to the end of restoring mine now. Mine's an aerospace one from circa 1984 with the concave weinmanns.

I've often thought there should be a site/owners register for these.

Good work! I used to pore over my brother's Raleigh brochures from this period when I were a lad and always thought these were very cool looking. I'm not sure what use an aerodynamic saddle is though

I reckon the wheels will look fine if you can get the decals off. People often do it with various different makes so I'd imagine it's straightforward. Also tan sidewall tyres will complete the retro look.

I've not been able to make up my mind about the wheel decals. I think I'm leaning towards removing them and they look as if they would peel off fairly easily. As far as tyres are concerned, I've been keeeping an eye out for some brown ones to match the bars and seat but the few I've seen seem pretty expensive - I can buy car tyres for less! Black tyres with tan sidewalls might be a decent compromise.

Thankfully it was steel and was unaffected by the dye. I'd have been in all sorts of trouble otherwise!

I got the originals off ebay, theyre pretty cheap.

Oh and definitely take the wheel decals off. One of the things that made the sprint stand out originally was that sharp contrast between the amberwalls and the black anodised rims.

I'm having a mare of it with mine, i need to renew the transmission due to age and wear, but my rear hub is heliomatic so i either need new wheels or to have the old rear relaced onto a cassette hub.

Eta, sorry about the pic quality, here's mine with new original tyres, new black hoods and tape and new gold cable outers...

Yours looks good Vince - do you know anything about the production dates for the different variants? I always presumed mine was one of the earlier ones, then the aero tubed ones came later and the final ones lost the gold bits and were all black, but I'm not really sure.

i could only go by rough dates, but yours is definitely older than mine, somewhere around 80-82 latest at a guess. mine is around 85-86 AIUI, there being a slightly earlier aero one with solid gold coloured chainset. the later ones with the unicrown fork and early indexing don't look anywhere near as iconic imho.

tyres look awesome on yours, think you've got the balance just right there.

I had a RS as a kid - still have actually but it's at my parents.

I took a different tack though. I fancied a modern interpretation so...Brand-x (Actually a Boardman frame it seems - ally frame with carbon forks and rear stays), original RRS decals, cheapo campag group-set - bought purely for the gold hubs, gold nokons, and KCNC bars and stem. Seat and post in the pic were off my MTB for sizing.

Pic is towards the end of the build when I was fettling the bar height - yes I know the cables are too short.
