Anyone got an electric bike?

I rather fancy the idea of getting a mountain bike, enjoying the outside, but with minimal effort!

There's loads on the market, anyone got any opinions?

We have had a Freego for 2 years and it has been fantastic, backup fropm the local shop (Simplythebike) has been superb

You will undoubtedly want better lighting (ebay)

Open minded on budget - thinking of a couple of grand???

I had a go on an electric bike in the summer and was quite impressed. However, my feeling is that they're a brilliant idea in two sceanrios: a) you are never going to get into cycling "properly", and all you want is fresh air, or b) you will be using it as pure transport - faster than walking and maybe the bus, more convenient than rural public transport, etc. Although in that second scenario, electric twist-n-go scooters are available probably for less money. Pedelecs are all limited to 15mph (you can go faster down hills) so a decent road bike will always be faster than you anyway.

If you're using one because you want to cycle but you're worried about getting exhausted, then to be honest, for the £2k you've spent on a pedelec you could buy a really good lightweight mountain/hybrid bike with very low gears that will get you up any hill. It's not a race, it's not a competition, take your time, just plod around and enjoy it.
