Though I really like a lot of the stuff I'm not sure I'm going to get anything, instead hold out and get some team sky stuff perhaps.

Softshell gillet at £90 looks good...as an aside I've just received their Proteam long sleeve jersey. I'm not sure about it & it might go back. It's hard to put my finger on but I expected more, if you follow. It was the same price as the winter jersey & that is a thing of beauty...not yet sold on this new item. I'll let Mrs Andy have a gander at it and let her have the casting vote.

I thought that about a couple of items when I had a browse in the shop. For the life of me can't remember what. Some look amazing and are worth the high prices, a couple of others felt like branding for branding's sake.TonyHetherington said:

I just don't 'get' expensive bike clothing I admit it. I'd quite happily spend my money on some shiny bit of rare metal that offers little appreciable benefit over something that is a fraction of the price - I've probably got 12 grands worth of bikes sat in the garage - but with clothing, unless it has some special fabric that is demonstrably better than the others it doesn't appeal. As you may guess sartorial elegance on the bike isn't high; picture stig-of-the-dump on wheels
That said with the PH top, I'll immediately be elevated into one of the best dressed men in Yorkshire - after Al of course.

The softshell is a work of art, that combined with a merino base layer and it's seeing off the worst of the conditions recently, but here's the trick, it's also fantastic in the milder conditions keeping my body at the same temp as when it's a lot colder, a pretty impressive feat IMO.I've got tops which are plenty warm but they have the bulk to go with it, the same as I have tops which are fantastic when it's mild but terrible when the temp drops.
Plus the fact it looks subtle yet with a fantastic cut - I'm no racing whippet yet it certainly manages to flatter.
£240 for a jacket which will get you out riding vs £240 for a set of bars for example is a no brainer, I'd take getting out there any day of the week.

Just got my softshell the other day - £240, offered with 25% off up to NYE, plus I had £100 in vouchers for my birthday = £240 jacket for £80. Is that the long sleeve softshell jacket you're talking about?
I agree about having stuff that keeps you warm but isn't bulky - it's a fine balance.
I have a Pearl Izumi soft shell that I wear with the Rapha merino base layer and I think that combination works very well indeed, for the same reason
