After sales service

Planet X are not your regular LBS unless you happen to be in Yorkshire however, the bulk of their sales are over the internet so you cant expect the same personal touch as a local shop and still get the low prices that PX offer. yeah cables stretch but not for a while and youre best just letting things bed in for a few hundred miles... as for costs and being a novice, just get a reasonable book or read the park tool website and learn to do it, things happen on a ride that you will nee to fix at the roadside or its a long walk home!...
Once they stretch if it's been set up right then shift into the most released gear (smallest cog at either end), undo the bolt holding the cable onto the dérailleur, pull the cable taut and re tighten it up. There is then a little adjuster barrel at the end of the cable outer and you can rotate this to fine tune the gears if you need to.
Go on, give it a go. You won't make it any more expensive if you fudge it anyway. Although this does rely on the limit screws having been set correctly first

Well i was planning to buy this bike at the 1k area.. looks good for the money ,don`t think there is anything out there with the same level of spec . was planning to pick the bike up from the shop after checking for size ! Just a bit shocked how they said "NO" to adjusting the bike in a few months time !.

Just use the barrel adjuster on the mech and step away from the allen keys, if it's stretched by more than the barrel adjuster can take up, there is a massive problem and the cable is rubbish and should be promptly removed to a bin. Secondly rear mech movement should be limited by the limit screws and never by the cable.Go on, give it a go. You won't make it any more expensive if you fudge it anyway. As above!FWIW the post-sale check-over/"service" is a waste of time. At best they'll twiddle the barrel adjusters and make sure nothing's fallen off. There's little to do, and as they're not charging, they're not earning, therefore they're rarely - if ever - interested!

They are as much a "manufacturer" as Bianchi, Genesis, Cube etc etc: they draw the shapes and they're made out in the Far East for peanuts. As "manufacturers" they enjoy bulk purchasing discounts, hence they don't pay ANYTHING like RRP for SRAM Red. Add to that Planet-X cut out the middleman, so there's no distributor nor shop. The frames are OK. Not the lightest out there nor the outright stiffest, but you see plenty of people - some of them rather quick - on them at TTs, races etc, so they're not as "bad" as the price would suggest.

as far as i can see its less a compromise and more a saving...because they dont charge a premium for a posh name on the downtube ala Bianchi
because they dont throw hundreds of thousands away sponsoring teams ala Cannondale
because they dont produce huge brochures featuring every model variant ala Specialised and their "concept" stores
because they dont run adverts in every magazine ala Giant
because they import it all direct from the far east and have a vastly reduced supply chain...
Thats the reason your Bianchis et al cost so much, and the Planet X cost so little, its not becuase the Planet X is so cheap, £1k is probably a fair wholesale value of that spec bike, the others are just over way priced...
