I know that there is a chap who comes on here occasionally and puts some of his pictures up from his ride for the day and amazing that they do look as well.
But I have just seen this when checking my e-mail. Sad news for people that were doing something that they obviously enjoyed. I suppose just goes to show that you have to do things that you enjoy as you never know when your time will come.

king HAT was that important????? Two people are DEAD because of your stupid fking HAT????????
Seriously. It's the same the world over. Couldn't people just wait to pick up their hats, update facebook, read the paper, drink their coffee etc. NONE of these things are worth risking even your own life for. When you risk the lives of others out of pure selfishness, or pure stupidity, you should be jailed. When that selfishness or stupidity causes the death of another human being, you should stay in jail for a very long time.
It's not as if incidents like this are particularly rare. I'm not talking of just cyclists being hurt or killed either. I mean collisions generally. The problem is that often the Police are reluctant to properly investigate the circumstances of collisions when there are no serious injuries involved, which backfires because people see their insurer pick up the tab for the repairs, and then carry on driving likes until they cause, or are involved in, a really serious incident. If the personal consequences of their selfishness/stupidity were more obvious earlier on in their driving experience, they might actually learn their lesson.
I'm imagining an example where a texting driver has a collision in which both cars are damaged but no injuries occur. The Police establish phone use as a potential contributing factor, then report that fact to the insurer, who investigates fully. The insurer puts right the damage to the other car on the 'third party' element of the claim, but refuses to pay out to the errant texter, who has now got to either pay out a hefty sum to fix their car, or scrap it. Either way they are out of pocket, and that is where people really notice a punishment these days. It would be a win for the Police (saved the cost of a full investigation), the courts (saved the expense of a prosecution), the insurer (saved the cost of repairing the idiot's car) and a win for the rest of us, as all drivers would have a 'friend of a friend' who'd been stung by the nasty "System", and would consequently make an effort to avoid getting stung too.
The only downside would be the win for Yuman Rites lawyers, as they abuse the European Human Rights Act to argue that proving that bad drivers were breaking the law in order to deny their insurance claims was a 'breach of their right to privacy'. Which is probably why we are left with the current system, the one where the only losers seem to be the victims.
Sorry if this was too far Off Topic, but I'm sick of hearing the bleating guilty trying to justify their actions, or to defend the indefensible. Failing to concentrate fully on driving is just plain WRONG. You knew it was wrong when you killed/injured innocent people, and you know it's still wrong now. Why are you trying to get away with it now? It's too late to 'learn from your mistakes' after an event like this. You can't tell me you didn't experience plenty of 'oops' moments leading up to it, which should have taught you all you needed to know.
Very sad for the families of the couple killed, and my sympathies go out to them. However. I did not know them, so my primary emotion on seeing this news is ANGER. Anger that people are still being killed by errant drivers, and no-one ever seams to learn a lesson from it. Genuine accidents are very few, and far between. Most collisions are caused by varying degrees of negligence, and most of them could be avoided with a little thought for others, and some appreciation of the risks we all take when we get into our cars.
Rant well and truly over. Apologies again to anyone who is offended by my tone.
