Garmin 500 or 510?

Struggling to choose between the two. It equates to an extra £100 for the 510 bundle over the 500. The phone integration doesn't look amazing, nor does the size, but the improved accuracy from GLONASS might be worth the premium and the out front mount looks good. Anyone owned both?

Yeah, but that's another £30 and man maths means that the two are basically then the same price.

I've got an Etrex HCX and an Etrex 30. Glonass seems to make cold starts MUCH quicker and hot starts a bit quicker. I find around tall buildings, it seems to help too. I'm not in the market for a 510, but I think it's a shame that they've made it so big. You might as well put a map on it with a screen that size.

For me personally I think the 510 is too large, and for the extra features it offers over the 500 not worth changing too.

I've been looking at the 500 vs 510 choice myself, currently not got a cycle computer (just using phone to record rides) but ideally want Cadence and HRM.

One thing tempting me is the 510 live location reporting, stop my wife texting me 3/4's way into a ride to ask where I am :-)

The thing putting me off is hoping that the price of the 500 will slide as the stocks reduce.

I've got the 500 and a 510 dispatched from wiggle yesterday. Hopefully i'll be able to give some advice by monday.

About time Garmin did an out front mount. Comes in cheaper than the K-Edge too.

...but doesn't hold the Garmin directly in front of the stem if that is important to you

I have both the KEdge and Garmin front mounts. The Garmin mount is a little lighter but has a fixed position for the Garmin away from the bars. The KEdge is better built and the clamp is better, plus it's more adjustable

SRAM one is about right for a lump of plastic. If it worked upside down it'd be spot on. K-Edge is nice, but good luck if you want to use a 910XT.

After waiting an age, well a few minutes, for my phone to find a decent GPS signal last night I've been swayed towards the 510. With an out front mount the size will hopefully not be an issue and live tracking might be useful for charity rides - my family are already into watching the live tracking maps that RunKeeper generates.

I do feel a bit like I've spent quite a lot of money on something that replicates most of the functionality provided by a free app, but still requires a phone, running an app. But what the heck, new gadget.

Also, for anyone interested Tweeks Cycles have the 510 bundle for £270 at the moment.
