A quick google of "satori cycle parts" reveals this gem... http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004XVPUAM/ref=asc_df_B... ...or this one, cheaper in the black finish too... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Handlebar-stem-raiser-fits... ...the only questions I have are 1. Is it really all that safe? and 2. Why?

Enough vanity to line up valves with tyre logos and then goes and fits 12 inches of spacers. Quite the opposite of slamming your stem !

The load imposed on the headtube and steerer could make for an interesting time after a few good pot holes.

I love how they've gone to all that trouble and expense to extend the height but not thought to flip the stem for a "free" rise!

On the other hand, I don't feel so bad about not having mine totally slammed now.

Actually, I'm going to suggest that someone has bought (or been sold) a totally inappropriate bike - big frame, low(ish) seat, fairly long stem, and they've felt the need to add that monstrosity. Would be better off with (probably) a smaller frame and (almost certainly) a hybrid / other form of more upright bike..

Back injury? Increased wind resistance as a means of training?

If you can't ride the current without then nothing will change when you buy a new bike, just more injury.

Agree with Mark though, unsuitable bike, and a pretty unsafe contraption altogether imo.

That has a massive headtube on it even before that horrific extension!

Mmmm...seems that someone didn't really want a road bike, maybe he was given it as a present after 40 years of riding a Raleigh Chopper?

The weirdest thing is he's managed to empty his local Evans warehouse of spacers but not bothered to flip the stem over. Probably the easiest way of negating the need for one or two of the 17, you would have thought?

I can't even fathom what a person who found that comfortable would look like. Extra long arms with an extra elbow in the forearm, and a spine fused straight to start with...

I put something similar on my commute bike after I ruptured a disc. It meant I could still ride a bike rather than stop all together.

Lucky for me things are a lot better now. I will never fully recover or get aero again but I did remove that thing.

No doubt it works, but just wouldn't want all that leverage on the top tube myself

You wouldn't be able to apply much leverage on the bars if you were in that position for that reason.
