Stolen Bike - Newcastle

Woken up this morning by my eldest, in floods of tears. We've been done over last night and they've stolen his bike and had a go at mine an SWIMBO's.

Cops have been out and the house is secure again.

At some point between midnight and 7.00am this morning, they have climbed up to the back gate using a neighbour's wheelie bin, cut through 3 x 3mm stainless steel wires strung across the back wall, climbed over the gate and into the yard.

Cut through the padlocks and staples / hasps on the gates from the inside.

Then they've cut through the wall anchor holding the bikes to the brick wall in the yard. Cut through the cable lock through his front wheel. No sign of his D-lock, so I'd assume it's still round his frame / rear wheel.

My bike and SWIMBO's were left in a pile on the floor. They've tried to cut through the ABUS Granite Steel-o-Flex but it hasn't given up. So although the casing is cut, it survived.


So if anyone sees a Halfords / Carerra Vulcan 16" for sale with Silver Bar Ends up for sale, let me know.

Now not sure what to do.

They didn't get my bike or SWIMBO's. They are inside at the minute, and a new wall anchor has been purchased. Not sure whether to fit that and put the bikes back outside tonight.

Or keep the bikes inside the house for a while.

I'm assuming they'll be back at some point, either soon, or when the insurance pays out for the stolen bike.

Is it worth putting up CCTV?

Sorry to hear this OP - seems like a LOT of effort by the thieves. Hoping they get found and banged up.

Thanks. I've always worked on the theory that it is impossible to guarantee that the bikes won't get stolen, but that you have to make it as difficult as you can, so they (hopefully) pick an easier target.

If they'd gotten all three bikes, it would have been a £1,500 haul, so probably worth the effort.

security light and cctv (whether real or fake) and cctv signage.
or a perimeter alarm would be better..
