Not sure on this one, I am riding a sportive on Sunday, 86 miles. only ridden max of 66 miles so far at about 18.5 average.

I was planning a quick ride lunchtime today ~20 miles but a flat battery meant the bike didn't get to work, so is riding tomorrow a good idea? haven't ridden since a hilly 63 on Saturday, or would I be better giving it a miss until Sunday?

I usually ride three times a week, long Sunday, and two shorter rides in the week

I would rest saturday and not do too much friday. Cycling tomorrow shouldn't cause a problem, but we are all different

Whatever you do, eat lots of pasta the day before, and porridge the morning of. That should keep you going.

A gentle-ish paced ride Thurs or Fri (or both) shouldn't hurt your performance on Sunday too much.

You'll need to eat during an 86 mile ride anyway.

IMO given your claimed normal riding you should be fine. I ride less than you and have done a few sportives, when I did the New forest ride last year I blinked and it was over! So fast and flat compared to many, okay I know it's looking windy and the route is different this year but other than Godshill its easy riding :-) not plowing up and down mountains all day like some others :-)

I'm doing the shorter distance on Sunday- have fun!

I generally rest up for at least three days before a big event.

I'm doing the New Forest 56m on Saturday and I did a 28m on Saturday and a 12m evening ride on Tuesday. Brief visit to the gym on Wednesday morning. I won't do anything else until I hop on the bike at the start line on Saturday.

A couple of hours on the turbo tonight and I'm ready for the 86 miler on Saturday... bring on the rain - at least it will be above zero !

I'm doing the 58 miler on Saturday... my first Sportive ever..I'm 40..14.5st...on a red Bianchi Via Nerone Tiagra... haven't been on either of my bikes for weeks... frown
4 hours a ta steady pace will be fine though I reckon especially given the number of people to follow..
Bar the ever changinbg weather forecast, I'm looking forward to it. thumbup
Good luck and enjoy people!

You might want a canoe instead of a bike! Good luck :-)

Looks like we'll have even more wind on Sunday though, maybe I should take a powerkite for downwind speed?

Just did an easy 20miler, that will be it until Sunday now. Seems everyone I know is riding Saturday, Weather not looking too good for Sunday with stronger winds. Might knock my 5 hour aspirations on the head..

Forecast is showing light to heavy rain in the morning. Going to be very annoyed if it chucks it down for all of the 56 miles.

My light weight emergency rain jacket is horrible to ride in for more than about half an hour. Grrrrr frown

Might go with summer long sleeve jersey as that is a bit more vented, so if I do have to resort to rain jacket, I won't boil in my own sweat.
