Hey guys, looking for advice.
Now first off I kind of ride, but last time I was on my MtB was September and on the road was November!
So I've got my Spech Tarmac in the LBS and I'm hitting spinning hard.
So after 3 sessions, tonight's wattage has risen to 289 watts for 45 mins of riding.
I'm about 13.9 stone and the chap reckons I should be hitting over 300 but what do you guys who actually train and not looking to motivate me think should be possible?
Btw I've used the same bike for the past week and tonight's ride pushed me certainly without going unsafe I was at the limit of my psychological comfort point.
Any way happy riding and may even bump into some of you if your down in the Farnham area.

So no training between November and 3 weeks ago and you're generating 289watts for 45 mins and the guy reckons that based on your weight it should be 300?
I'd be asking how accurate the calibration of the bike is and also why the guy thinks he can make a pretty sweeping assumption about weight = power expectation.
Have you ridden in the "real world" and logged it at all if so what sort of speed are you averaging over 1 hour on a fairly flat ride?

To answer some questions (without sounding defensive).
Have I tried a road bike with a power metre attached, no but would love to try it out for a ride.
Calibration of the bikes is a good question and one I can’t answer other than to say that the club seems fastidious in maintaining its equipment but again that doesn’t predetermine the accuracy of the calibration and of the read out.
When I say I haven’t been on a bike doesn’t mean I have stopped all exercise. I play a bit of squash/badminton (both once a week), played 8 aside footy over the winter 1 – 2 a week (stopped at end of Jan), and run a bit (like 5 – 10k a couple times a week although spin has now got that time slot).
But saying that with wedding and honeymoon just gone I have put on weight and hence another reason for this spurt of enthusiasm.
Finally the instructor who gave me some advice didn’t know my weight nor training regime but just having a quick chat I dropped the what should I be aiming at and he gave me a snap judgement post class.
Anyway struggled with spin this morning (06:30 start), with a different instructor (so different type of session) and not enough recovery (yes will be taking some rest now) over 45 mins I turned out 233
I guess it doesn’t matter if the read out is accurate, what does matter is if the equipment is consistent in its measurement. So regardless of if I really am at say 110 for the session or 450 I can judge my progress against previous sessions.
Any suggestions for whether spin 3 times a week is beneficial for when I get back on my road bike? Or should I be keeping my swimming and running up and not compromise those in this new endevor?

Ok serious question what are they reading out then? I'm in the gym Friday (tomorrow is a run in morning and badminton after work) will take a pic then just to clarify? Im proper confused now?
Not all watts are the same! It just sounds as if the bike is not terribly well calibrated. To be fair it doesn't really matter as long as it's consistent from session to session so you can detect a trend.
