4 Miles today...
First ride since 11th March and first since my back op.
Just an easy ride to see how it feels. All good, but sore after the gym today. Hoping to get a few more miles in tomorrow if everything feels ok.
3 mile blast today after an 11hr shift, back is also very sore, can't wait for my day surgery appointment this month, may actually be pain free for onceFirst ride since 11th March and first since my back op.

If it is any consolation 5 or 6 years ago (might have been longer) I could hardly walk through a number of back issues. My consultant decided that invasive treatment would run too high a risk of aggravating things, making it more painful, and at worse put me in a chair with wheels. I underwent about 8 or 10 months of intensive physio/Pilates and eventually could walk and stand with little or no pain. My condition means that I can't do impact sports, so I had to give up running - which was one of many reasons for me to jump back on a bike. First ride since 11th March and first since my back op.

A few years down the line and I have a decent strong core, which removes the dependency on my spine to keep me upright, and almost pain free (although the silliest of things will drop me to my knees). Also, through cycling keep my weight down - and can pound out miles and miles with no real pain, the only twinge I get every now and again is if I get our of the saddle on a big climb and 'go for it' - too much thrashing from side to side will remind me all is not well in my lower spine!
Stick at it, cycling has really worked for me but don't overdo it - the back takes so long to heal and rushing your recovery will only put you back in the long run.
Back on topic, mileage for the month so far is 113 miles / 181 kms....

What are you having done?
I'm having some sort of injection in my lower back, which is supposed to relieve the pain that I'm getting. I was injured at work years ago, then had a car accident and various other with related injuries, then last summer for an unknown reason I woke up one morning and couldn't walk more than a couple of feet without assistance. It got better after a day, but now I have 24hr pain (nothing too bad, but it's constantly there and they can't see any issue with my spine)I've just got used to it and I'm hoping next month I'll be miraculously cured!

I went through loads of Physio etc. and the last few years of training have really helped improve my core etc.. but was still getting constant pain so decided to go through with the surgery.
I'm pleased I did and think I'll be in good shape once given the all clear.
You're right about overdoing it… Have been to the gym 4 times this week and then the little ride last night… Feel like I pushed it a bit yesterday, but am taking it easy today.
Although I may well double my monthly total once the Giro coverage is over

Hope the injections make a good difference and are the cure you're after!

Another 4 miles today...
Went out on the Pro C, rather than the CX, for a little loop the includes a couple of hills...
Bit better than yesterday, av. speed of 16.4 mph, managed to bag a PR too!
http://app.strava.com/activities/52282271
Actually felt more comfortable on the road bike with its racier position.
Although it could be that my lungs were burning so much I couldn't feel the back pain
Amazing how quickly you lose fitness.
Time to get it back now
So, that's 8 for the month so far now.

Cycling has been amazing for my core stability and now I can bang out 60 miles no pain - have my first 100 on Saturday.
You are going the right way pal and keep up the core work
Best of luck
So. After being off the bike(s) since last October, I've managed to motivate myself and start riding again.
November '12 to January '13 = 0 miles
February = 5 miles
March = 15 miles
April = 0 miles
May = 28.5 miles, over 2 rides. And it's only the fifth day!
I'm back! All off-road and local so far, but it feels good, despite having gotten into a bit of a state, physically. Slow so far, compared to last year, but I managed to inject a little more pace tonight, toward the end of my ride, too. As soon as I'm sure that I'll not embarrass myself, I'll squeeze myself into some Lycra and drag the road bike out.
