Water for a 60 mile ride
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm doing a 60 mile ride tomorrow - fairly long by my standards. I've done a century before, but that time I was carrying a bag full of (non-cycling) stuff - so had room for a giant water bottle. This time I don't, so how much water do people think I should be carrying? Temperature looks to be 10-15 C, and I'll aim to be tooling along at 17-20 mph, it's a fairly flat route. Cheers all.

56 miles last night - 2,400ft of ascent on 1/2 a 750 ml bottle at 20mph average, same distance last week, roughly the same climbing, 20.5mph average but a full bottle 750 ml bottle! It really depends on the weather, hot/sunny days you will need more.
You should be fine on 1 biddon but take two just in case! Personally I don't bother with electrolyte tabs unless it is really hot, my fave riding tipple is Johnsons summer fruits squash!!
Good luck with your ride.

I had a comedy moment in the middle of Windsor today in front of hundreds of tourists that resulted in popping my bottle from its holder! Thankfully my mate was following me so was able to grab it before it was squished by a bus!
Going down the hill outside the castle there are some of those stupid traffic calming things, not quite a sleeping policeman and not quite a calming island, somewhere in between. I have become quite proficient in bunnyhopping them but today made a right t
t of myself when my bottle full of ribena decided to make a break for it mid-air! Thank feck it didn't go through the rear spokes!
Hope the ride went well, keep up the longer rides and you won't even think about prepping for 60 miles, you'll just do it!
