Hayes HFX-9 disc brakes
Discussion
Evening,
I have these on my cotic soul, swapped the bits over - in the main - from a trek fuel ex-7; I remember reading somewhere about adjusting lever travel, at the moment I have minimal travel on the front brake lever and a fair bit on the rear, and, imo, i'd prefer it the other way round. does anyone know how you adjust these? I don't think they need bleeding to adjust lever travel.
thanks

Used to have them on my 2005/6(?) Giant Trance 4. Great brakes! Unfortunately the bike was stolen about 5 1/2 yrs ago. I seem to remember there was a tiny grub screw on the lever somewhere which you could wind in/out. But that may have been on my Avid Juicy 3s on the replacement bike.

think that adjusts the lever position - it's the travel I want to adjust..
I see, no other adjustment on the brakes than that screw. Might need bled to adjust the travel. Can always take the wheel out and squeeze the lever slightly to move the pads in (obviously not so much that you cant get the wheel back in).In the first instance check the rear pads, if they are worn you sometimes get more travel as the pistons sometimes stick and don't self adjust.
then once you know the pads and pistons work reverse bleed the system.
once bled firmly insert the master (lever end)bung, then with the bleed syringe full of brake fluid (and no air) slowly inject more fluid until you get the desired lever feel.
beware of over doing it as the bung may pop out, and if the pads are in constant contact with the disc they may overheat.
