Time pedals/shoe compatability

Hi all,
I'm hoping the learned roadies of PH can help me. I've recently dusted off my road bike after a few years of not being used. I bought it 9 years ago, and being honest I knew very little about road bikes, so bought it at my LBS as I could try it out. It's a Monoc, Alu frame, full 105, and as I've found out tonight, Time pedals.
I say I've found out, as when I was setting off for a ride, my 9 year old Nike road shoes snapped a buckle so are now unusable. I thought I would look for some cheap shimano shoes (have had shimano MTB shoes that have lasted me >10 years) but I am now unsure whether the shimano shoes will fit? Does anyone have a definitive answer? Ideally, I don't want to be spending more than £50 on a new set of shoes. Anyone have any suggestions please?

From a limited amount of googling tonight, Time pedals seem to be "good" so I guess I shouldn't be changing them to cheap shimano SPD-SLs?

Setting aside the 9 years (I'm not overly sure on changes in pedal/cleat standards in that time), your Shimano shoes may/should be compatible with the look pedals: SPD-SL, Time, Look etc all share the same 3-bolt pattern these days.

Can you post a picture of the cleats from said pedals?

Not sure if the photos help? I managed to fix them with a zip tie (jack duckworth would be proud!) temporarily until I work out what fits. Might just drop into my LBS tomorrow, but any independent opinions would be appreciated.

Hmmm. 3 bolts in that pattern would suggest compatibility with the current SPD-SL system, although I can't say for sure if any measurements have changed. Knowing the bike industry, what's the betting someone slipped in a few more mm (f'nar...) to create some new "standard"

Yes, that was my fear too. 9 years is a long time....

I was reading up on Time pedals last night and they seem to be very different to SPD-SLs? Has anyone switched from one to the other and have an opinion either way? I do like the way the pedals feel and clip in and out, so I'd prefer to keep them. The current Time pedals also seem to be two-thirds of the weight of the same priced shimano pedals, not sure how?

Whilst (road)| cleats most makes will use the same 3-bolt pattern to fix to the shoe, each make uses it's own cleat shape and pedal/fixing attachment, so the pedals will look/feel different (although basic workings are the same).

Not used Time myself.

re. Shimanos, they come up a little heavier as they're utterly bombproof: the best pedal bearings going and all-metal construction. Quality and reliability. sorted. And the cleats are more durable WRT walking and wear
