Hybrid help please

Been offered a 9mth old mens Giant Escape 0, medium frame. The friend selling has been told by local bike shop it's worth c£450, she is open to sensible offers having bought it new.
What do you reckon, is it a good bike & what should I offer for it, it is a 2011 model she says.

2013 bike is $850 on the Giant website so £450 doesnt sound too bad

She's dropped to £400, going to see it this week, anything to look out for?

Decent bike, price seems reasonable, just the usual checks really. It's got carbon forks so be wary of any signs of an accident. Check the gears and brakes work through their full range, chain has been lubed (good sign of a looked-after bike).

Above all though - make sure it's the right size. It won't be comfortable otherwise and you won't ride it if its uncomfortable.
