Campag chain question...

Afternoon all,

I need a new chain on a 10 speed 2012 Campag Centaur groupset. Looking at reviews on Wiggle, there are various people mentioning a need for a special chain tool to fit/remove Campag chains?

I've got a normal chain splitter (somewhere!), but the chains on my other bikes have removable links which don't require a tool at all.

What, therefore, would people recommend I buy? Are Campag chains worth the extra hassle of buying and using a new tool? Can I fit a removable link onto a Campag chain? Am I better off using a third party chain?

Sorry cant answer exactly but I'm finding none of my Shimano tools (BB remover etc) work on my capag bike, bit of a pita. But on the other hand nothing has broken yet!

You can use a normal chain splitter and then fit a KMC link (make sure you get the one specifically for Campag 10sp chains though).
No need for any special tools IME.

I run campag 10, you do indeed need a special campag tool for campag chain.

The simplest option is to buy an alternative make like kmc etc and they provide a split link.

The next step is measuring the replacement chain. It would be easy to think that because the new largest rear cog has 3 more teeth than the old one, I should just leave that many extra links on the new chain, but is life actually that simple, or do I need to measure it up again properly?

Exactly this, it's only the 11 speed that needs the special tools. If I remember correctly the KMC link for the campag chains is not reusable.

Measure up again. 3 links is a LOT more length to add to a chain for a mere cassette change.
