Lake District at the weekend....

A pal and me are going for a jolly around the lakes on our bikes, we are driving from Blackpool (neither of us are quite fit enough to ride there and have a run up and down the hills). We were both wondering if there is anywhere to abandon the car for free, while we go playing.
According to the Lake District's website there are free car parks but they are in remote areas, but it doesn't say where these remote areas are. Does anybody know where these car parks are? Thanks
