Boardman Team Urban or Islabikes beinn 29?
Discussion
What do you guys think?
Been offered a friends Boardman Team Urban for 600 and it is in very good condition - hardly used in fact. fits right for me and I can tell the components are quality. He wont go any lower as he has other people interested for a few quid more.
But.. I had budgeted for 500 max so it is still out of my reach, tempted to push it though. I had almost decided on the Islabikes Beinn 29 at £449 as I quite like the simplicity of its design, I have not tried one on for size though.
I know me though and as I have much more time on my hands now I can see me using a bike much more than I am doing at the moment. In that sense maybe I should stretch to the Boardman as it would grow with me. Need to decide by the weekend!
Wish I could test drive them side by side for a day!

There is a review on the Benin in Singletrack magazine this month, if it's anything like the old Zinn mountain bikes which Isla's partner used to build it will be superb.
My nearest stockist of Singletrack appears to be 20miles away! shame it would have been useful info.BadgerBenji said:

It won one of the grouptests in one of the mags a while ago. In summary, it was a very capable bike, and praised for eschewing fitting crap forks and cable discs for looks rather than function. It was pretty light too IIRC.Just to update on this I have decided on the Islabikes Beinn 29
I got hold of this months Singletrak magazine and they seem to think its probably the best bike you can buy for anywhere near £500
I can sort of see the logic, why buy a complicated bike with cheap components which you probably don't need ie forks, disc brakes etc when you can a buy a light bike with decent quality simple components instead. I like that kind of philosophy as I certainly don't need anything sophisticated.
My wife could be tempted to get one too but she is adamant that she needs disc brakes (no idea why as I have never seen her either go out in the wet or go above 10mph!) the Singletrak review stated that the disc ready hubs only require calipers and rotors to upgrade, how much would that upgrade cost though? anyone got an idea?

Watch the sale emails that come from the big web retailers, and you can grab the odd bargain, picked a complete set of avid elixir 1's including discs up for £40 earlier this year, a big improvement over the cable ones they replaced.I got hold of this months Singletrak magazine and they seem to think its probably the best bike you can buy for anywhere near £500
