So, every time I go into my LBS I see a row of cool looking caps above the till and consider buying one, before thinking 'when would I wear it?'

Almost every roadie I see is wearing a helmet now, every pro rider wears a lid all the time, and the rules ban the wearing of a cap anywhere other than on a bike.

Cap owners, when and where do you wear them, or are they just a trinket to keep on a shelf? The only people I have seen in them recently are the ones who think Lycra is appropriate attire for a four hour cross channel ferry journey, and frankly I'm not taking tips from them!

At cycling club events. When I'm on the bike, but not wearing a helmet. Under the helmet when it's cold or pissing it down.

The cycling cap SHOULD roll over and die an honourable death. Grotesque looking things. I absolutely loath the damned things.

I've only seen one recently, and that was perched on the head of someone who was not otherwise dressed for cycling, at the Goodwood FoS. I wasn't tempted to re-assess my opinion of the dreadful, silly things. If they disappear completely it won't be a moment too soon for me.

I won't annunciate what I thought of the wearer at Goodwood, for fear that he might be a PHer and take it personally, but dude...

...No! Just no. It's wrong, and you know it's wrong. Just don't, OK?

The cycling cap is my cycling 'revelation', I bought one last year to match one of my jerseys, wore it without a helmet and TBH I did not like it at all, fast forward several months to the winter and wearing it under a helmet and I have to say it's fantastic, keeps the head warm, dry-ish and also keeps crap out of eyes, for winter I don't think I would do without it now.

Wearing it off bike? That's a big no, unless of course you are Cav and have just won a stage...

One should always wear a cap when bicycling - obviously.

(Although maybe not the bands).

I never wear mine on it's own but like others wear it when it's raining or cold.

I rode to work on Tuesday in the cap, not the lid. just too damm sweaty for the crash hat.

I like them, but it is hard to find a cool one, without branding stuck all over them, as per the above.

Btw the rules allow for cap wearing, during a per ride cappacino or for a post ride cold beer, provided the bike is close by.

Walz are great quality and they do custom designs:

Handy in the pocket for sans helmet riding in heavy rain or hot sun.

I am another one who can't stand them at all! I can almost understand wearing one under a helmet but not INSTEAD of a helmet.

I would rather wear a neck buff on my head than a cycling cap.

I love them, they are great for us folk who wear glasses and cant afford prescription wraparound glasses, offer a tiny bit of shelter in the sun, they stop rain getting in your eyes when its wet and most importantly, they make you look a tiny bit more pro...

I love mine.

Wear one as often as possible when on the bike. Not so much off.

Im with you on this, it seems we are on our though LOL. Bloody horrible thing. If people want to keep stuff out of their eyes where glasses or a peak (that will upset them hehehe) During the colder times I wear a Buff under my helmet, comfier and can be worn as a beanie type hat and you dont have to be near a bike to wear it. Cycle caps worn when nowhere near a bike is so wrong.

I wore glasses while riding through the thunderstorm on Tuesday, they don't work!
