How do they do it
Discussion
Just purchased a planet X carbon frame with part Ultegra group set for £999 . Paid £40 more for carbon seat post and stem and upgrade tyres and a few bits . ..That's got to be a £1800 bike ,how do they do it ? All the components are top notch ,nothing cheap on the bike .

They're being cheeky there IMO by stating "and we're not just giving you an Ultegra front mech, we're giving you a whole gearing system" when the chainset is actually from way down in the range. Okay, so it's technically not part of the 'gearing system', but the chainset is related to the gearing I'd say.
Anyway it's still damn good value. Enjoy!

If you spend around £50 more they upgrade the seat and handle bar stem to carbon ,supply much better tyres and upgrade for Gel tape .Anyway it's still damn good value. Enjoy!

They do it -
Group set they got huge discount on as its about to be superseded
Cheap brakes
Cheap wheels
Cheap bars, stem, post, bar tape
Cheap tyres
It's on the face of it very impressive but actually your you had 105 and better wheels and tyres the bike would ride much more nicely I would think

I bought virtually the same bike just over a year ago, except it's decked out with Campag Athena and I upgraded the original wheels to Zondas. It's actually probably one of the best bikes I've ever ridden for the money. The particular bike shown in the ad, because I'm offshore, I could get for £800 with a huge chunk of VAT knocked off. Top value.

Nah, I've got a proper carbon bike thanks ;-)Joking aside, they are good value, but they play on people who are (wrongly) drawn to the name on a rear mech when actually I'd challenge most people to notice the difference in a blind test between a 105 and ultegra rear mech, where they should be spending the money is on wheels/tyres - but they know what sells bikes is Ultegra/SRAM red peppering which actually make very little odds to the way a bike rides.

I can tell the difference as my last bike had 105 (which is perfectly good IMO). The Ultegra brakes are amazing compared to my old cantis and they even work in the wet. Which is nice...
Yes, but the point a couple have made is that you're getting only a couple of bits from the groupset which to the typical customer of this bike is probably enough to make a decision, you're not getting the brakes, the chainset etc etc, the bits you're not getting are important bits!Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
