It struck me this morning, riding into work, that I very rarely get overtaken by anything that sounds interesting. The best of a bad lot this morning was a Rover 75 V6!

What interesting things do you come across on your rides?

A few months back a V6 Jag F-Type would overtake me. They sound incredible!

A 911 passes me up a hill most days, sounds like a VW beetle having a frantic w@nk in a filing cabinet, still better than the usual cars.

Have to say the KV6 in my ZT does make a nice noise (not me in clip):

Probably Golf R32s and Audi S4/6/8/whatever usually.

The ubiquity of Audis in Aberdeen and the fact that they are often driven by t0ssers here prevents me liking anything else about them, though...

A month or so back I was passed (and later passed as they sat in traffic) a GT40 replica followed by a Cobra replica.

Treat! gave them a thumbs up and a 'lovely car' as I passed.

RX8s sound quite nice and I see a few of them, occassionally see an Ariel Atom but the driver is a knob and seems to think owning a nice car is his exemption from following the highway code... to be honest, most of my commute is passing stationary traffic on the ring road so its mostly dull euroboxes on tickover...

I work in Knightsbridge so every summer we get the flocks of supercars brought over by the Arabs.

Koenigseggs, Lambos, Ferraris, Bugattis etc.

However, the nicest thing I heard was an Alfa 8C with the number plate ALF4 8C.

Glorious.

Here's part of the gallery of shots I've taken of some of the more interesting things:

Bentley Supersport

Pimped Panamera and Veyron

Veyron

CCX-R (I think)

That was then clamped outside Harrods

Ferrari 456 GT Estate (one of only 7 in the world)

McLaren F1

Another Veyron

Mclaren MP4 12C - while I was taking this, one of the HS versions roared past, but I missed the shot. (There's only five of those I think).

Two Ferrari FF's (another turned up as I was walking away

Gross

Some of the non-supercar stuff, that I found interesting:
Citroen DS Estate

Hindustan Ambassador

Lovely looking Defender

Fiat 500 695 Tributo Ferrari (40k's worth)

Old Goddess

VW Variant 1600L

And my favourite car of all time - 300SL

the best sounding car whilst on my bike is one that's turned off (silent)! Good title to get a car post in the bike section..

Hmmmmmm. I had a bit of a blonde moment today. Jaguar X Type trundled past, and as it went on it's way, I thought "that sounds a bit meaty, I wonder what he's done to it to make it sound that deep?" Then it disappeared, but the sound didn't. The sound got louder, and as it approached, it's tone changed, and the distinctive 'beating' of the air began...

...the 'throaty' sound of the X Type turned out to be the sound of one of RAF Odiham's Chinook fleet heading for home. I felt quite silly for a bit, I can tell you.

They make a hell of a noise!

I did a soakaaway test (dig big hole, full with water, time how long it takes to disappear) at RM Poole once. Took ages and just before I'd finished, one landed nearby. The vibrations caused the pit to collapse ruining the whole test!!!

Not on my commute, but got passed by a Porsche Carrera GT a few years back while out on the road bike on a deserted road. He slowed right down, passed me at maybe 30, then NAILED it away - I could see/hear him for the next mile ahead of me!

Also got passed by 2 sports bikes the other day, one of which must have been doing 130-140mph! I felt it more than heard it!

Great pics of the cars, sport and retro. I owned a 69 VW Squareback (Variant), loved it, so gutted I needed to sell

Passed a Bentley Conti GT that was idling at the end of our road last night, I was more concerned that it was going to pull out on me. Then just before I got to work, I passed a stationary Fiesta RS Turbo. If I'd known the driver's window was down, I'd have complimented the driver on an ace bit of 90s-ness

I often see a AM Vantage V12 that sounds lovely, an R8 V10 and on occasion a Lambo Diablo SV. The XKR nextdoor is still a fave though.

I had both a C63 and an SL55 come past on my way home. Lovely V8 sounds!

A C63 seems has passed me a couple of times, and an Vantage when out at the weekend, but rarely anything very fun.

Austin 7 with an obviously tuned engine and fishtail exhaust the other day had a nice old school rasp to it.

I've been surprised by how loud older cars are compared to the newer stuff. I've been overtaken this week by a 205 Gti that was being driven sensibly but sounded really loud compared to everything else. It had a standard exhaust as well.

I was also overtaken by a Mk2 Cortina with some sort of V8 in it, that sounded great.
