New Road Bike - Must be from Evans

The nice lady in accounts has confirmed that my voucher has been paid for, so should come through to me tomorrow.

So now comes the difficult task of making a decision on which bike to go for

We use the Evans scheme, so I can only look there.

The contenders so far:

Bianchi Impulso Veloce



Jamis Xenith Comp



Fuji Roubaix 1.3



Now, the Bianchi is clearly the prettiest, but I believe the Jamis and Fuji are slightly better specced. I'd appreciate the views of you chaps who know a bit more of road bikes than me.

I need to get all three into my local branch (40 miles away) so that I can try them for size etc. first, but with the intention of taking the "right" one away with me

I used the Evans scheme to get mine early last year. How much is your voucher?

I am duty bound by internet tradition to point at the Cannondale CAAD8 (or Synapse), tell you all the others are rubbish, and slag off the Bianchi before Dizeee gets here.

The CAAD8 only comes in Tiagra. There is a CAAD10 on offer in my size (56cm) but I think that'll be too racy for my needs.

I just don't like the gear cable out the side of the lever thing. I prefer the tidy under the bar tape route.

Daft I know, but it would annoy me when riding looking at it.

Think the CAAD 8 105 is £1050. Surly it must be due to start being reduced about now. I'm sure they could swing it so you could take one if it was the "only" bike you wanted.

I always like the look of the Fujis. Not sure if they are any good or not though.

Couldn't agree more.



Get that, some decent gloves, shorts and a waterproof jacket, some Crud mudguards, a can of chain cleaner, some SPD pedals and shoes, sorted. Don't worry about getting lights from Evans - far, far cheaper to pick up LED ones on Ebay/DealExtreme. Bosh.

I got mine for £900 instead of £1k because Tredz had discounted the same model. (The '13 model is now £900 anyway).

Is there anything wrong with last year's? I'm not asking that in a pointed fashion, i'm genuinely interested. I've got it on my bike, but i'm new to road cycling, so don't know any different.

I would definitely be drawn to the Bianchi from those three. Always been a sucker for celeste green!

Have you had a look at the Hoy Sa Calobra .003? Shimano 105 and Shimano RS10 wheels for £1k.

This year's is 10 speed instead of last year's 9 speeds. Not sure of any other differences.

I've got a Caad 8 with the old Tiagra. Not Cannondale's fault specifically but it has been very unreliable. Basically I've had gear, brake, cassette, chain and wheel issues in the last 18 months. Just very unlucky I think.

I'm seriously tempted by the Ultegra spec Sa Calobra .004 as my next bike.

My current bike is a 2008 Boardman Road Comp. Maybe I have a thing for British ex-champ bikes in the first year of release! (not sure I can see myself on a Pendleton shopping bike just yet!)

I'd forgotten about that one, I'd got too wrapped up in looking at the discounted bikes. It does seem well speced for the price

I have a Bianchi C2C Nirone and love it, never stop admiring it. Makes we want to ride it and that's the main thing surely
