Shared. My club cycle round there quite a bit and although it's only one side of the story the driver needs to answer some questions

Someone needs locking up, preferably in an asylum.

The more i see of these incidents, the more i think its a good idea to keep your opinion of other peoples driving to yourself no matter what they've done, as they have a car and you have skin and bones. Not condoning matey in the RR but would this have happened if the cyclist had kept his head shaking to himself...

Whilst you may be right, tis a sad world when the shake of the head results in some physco attacking you.

Indeed but ive seen this so many times on the forums and the scorn seems to be the catalyst for the violence. Im a keen cyclist myself BTW...

Looks strangely like me ten weeks ago (though he's skinnier than me and "my" driver was careless rather than malicious).

Hope he recovers well and is right-handed - it's a long road back for a broken hand.

Me too, and I give them a wide berth when passing others on their bikes.

I have to agree with both of you here. I have fortunately only had one minor altercation with a car driver despite riding to work every day. That person slowed down, squeezed me towards the kerb, beeped their horn and shouted something at me which I didn't hear. I had had a bad day at work and so reacted badly, got off my bike and suggested they get out of the car and we discuss it further. They promptly drove off. When I told the wife she went bat st at me for shouting at them and told me I should just ignore anyone in future who does that lest I get stabbed!

I now ignore any kind of stupid or annoying driving and don't react at all. You should be able to remonstrate with someone if they do something wrong and nearly knock you off but unfortunately he world is full of s who will do what the RR driver did.

I had a small scale experience of this earlier this year. Riding close to home when white van parked up suddenly pulls 3ft out of the space (no indicators) when I'm along side, I braked, swerved and rolls past missing my a few inches... I shook my head and inwardly said- "That was F***ing lucky"

Second later the van blasts past then stops forcing me into the kerb, I had to hop off and pull bike onto path to avoid him- at which point the driver unleashed stream of abuse ending with threat to "knock my F'ing block off if he see's me again" (Moot since he clearly didn't see me this time...)

Since I was so close to home and thought seeing him was likely I reported it to the Police who tracked him down (van was stickered up by a local business) turned out he was off-sick for stress and his wife had just left him so Police decided I might have met him "at the wrong time"!

I have vowed not to shake my head, fist or finger at anyone else while cycling, not worth the risk, don't want to meet anyone else "at the wrong time"

Perhaps I should gesticulate twice as much at people who cut me up in the car to balance the universe?

I had a 'situation' once in rural Essex, with a 'mid life crisis' type in a red 911 Targa. tt drove straight at me and a fellow cyclist on a long narrow straight. I pulled over after he'd gone by, looked back and shook my head. Cue this retread reversing about 100 metres, and demanding to know if I had "a fking problem". I smiled sweetly and told him I didn't, and that I'd stopped for 'a bit of a rest'. Then he became further abusive, and turned a bit purple, before running out of things to say and roaring off in his 'Wall Street' special edition. I waved. It was quite funny.

Just lately while riding at night, I'm finding a lot of drivers either forget, or deliberately don't bother to dip their headlights for me ("it's just a fking cyclist, I couldn't give a st"). I've taken to holding up my hand, to shield my eyes. If the lights still don't dip after about 5 seconds, the idiot gets the finger. I'm desperate for one of these twunts to turn around and have a go about this, so that I can ask them how it is that they can see a tiny little finger, yet completely miss the fully lit/hi-vis adorned bike/cyclist it is attached to.

Given the current rash of anti-cycling road rage (probably because its summer and there are more of us to outrage the stupid) I think we know the risk is that said twunt will mow you down and flatten you to actual death before you get a chance to point out their infraction :-)

It's healthier all round to ignore it and survive to post on here for a bit of tea and sympathy afterwards.

After four years of commuting into Birmingham city centre I have learnt it's best just to ignore idiots, any fist waving, giving them the finger type gestures often end up with this type of situation. Doesn't stop me muttering all sorts of language under my breath but would rather avoid any confrontation, after having cars chase me, cars deliberately trying to knock me off or force me into the pavement its just not worth it.

What I have found is that my airzound horn is not taken as an act of aggression by motorists whereas shouting in the same situations is, I have had many instances where I've given a little blast on my horn to get a motorist attention who I know hasn't seen me and they look totally startled that a little bike can make so much noise then give a gesture to let me know they have seen me, nod of head or hand wave, never anything aggressive. Would highly recommend any commuters to get one. Really good on pedestrians too when they walk out without looking.

I wonder what would happen with most of these heroes, if you casually pulled a handgun out of the back pocket of your cycling jersey and pulled the slide back - ker-click! ?

does any cage fighters not have any stories of car ragers, always seems the bikers come off worse
or any off duty police then the drivers would have some question to answer

My mate is a PCSO, he had someone have a bit of a roadrage at his daughter while he was out with her while stopped at some traffic lights, he is a bit of a big unit anyway but waving his warrant card at the aggresor shut him up sharpish. If he wasnt in the car with her ive no doubt the outcome would have been somewhat different... He had to report the bloke and a full time plod went and had a few words in the chaps ear.
