I've just had a set of wheels built for the commuter, whilst most of the groupset is 105, it appears the cassette is tiagra. So that I've got a back-up, I'm thinking of leaving the existing wheels as they are.

So with that in mind, will I notice any difference changing the cassette to 105/Ultegra for the new wheels, or is that more down to front & rear derailleurs?

Assuming that the gear ratios available are the same, then the difference will be almost entirely weight (which will also be very small).

For the commuter..- just stick with tiagra / 105 at best...

No difference aside from how the sprockets are mounted/held together, the weight (bit more for Tiagra) and the price (bit less).

With me on it, any weight difference in those sprockets will not even be noticed. Thanks for the replies.

pro's have and do ride with all sorts of cassettes e.g. the bottom of the range SRAM cassette and r/d with everything else sram red, clearly it works and if they are willing to put it on their bike then i bet we wouldnt notice the difference.

for the pedants out there yes i know its for the wifli ratios but still if it wasnt any good, too heavy etc and may break they wouldn't use it
