Had a play with them on a bike in Halfords, they feel very similar to Sora, and given that the Tourney shifters are basically 7 speed 2300 I guess the Claris and Sora are extremely similar in all but number of gears.
I've found them for £80 online, wondering if my wife will notice....

OK MY 2300 shifters are horrible :-) I hate the amount of movement needed to shift on the left, and the right one isn't going to win any awards. I've had them set up by a non local lbs as well as sworn at them endlessly. Getting good at adjusting them though after buggering everything up completely.

te crankset & BB on my Trek 1.1 so I have gone for the Claris double crank. Still 8 speed so I don't have to upgrade the rest of the drive train. They now have Octalink as well so gone for a decent 105 BB, not more bent axles! £80 all in.
Seriously tempted by the shifters now as well. £80 on Parkers International. The 2300 shifters are ok, but shifting to the large chain ring is a nightmare on the drops.
