Does anyone have preference for MTB cycle guards (I seem to remember crud catchers back in the day?), or the like?

I also seem to get very numb feet using my SPDs, and the shoes feel very narrow. Does anyone have any recommendations for MTB shoes that are wider, but aren't totally race-spec (as I could never carry that one off!).

Cheers
D

Crud catchers are still going, as for the shoes I have some specialized tahoes, they fit my wide feet really well.

Mavic MTB shoes seem to be a fairly wide fit judging by the pairs I've tried on.

Thanks, I'll go and seek out pairs of Tahoes and Mavics to see what they're like. Much appreciated!

I have these shoes, my feet are quite wide, but I can easily wear mine with normal socks and a pair of sealskinz socks too. http://www.evanscycles.com/products/shimano/mt43-m...

Crud catchers are fine, the ones with the rubber noses I think are quite good as they seem to get knocked out of place less.

Northwave shoes are wide, and look very non race.
I dont bother with mud/crud guards.... but my lad has a marsh guard which works very well on the front!

Thank you so much. Got a pair this morning (From Evans, somehow avoided the sale), and just been for a ride. For the first time in years my feet aren't numb after a ride. Bliss.

sounds like you need a bender fender. They are an impressively simple and elegant solution to the problem of getting plastered in crud, and we sell 'em by the metric buttload at the shop.

Ha - they are in the post now! biggrin

Next question.... I have very delicate ears (deaf as a child, loads of operations). As I was hitting over 50kph on the gravel trails, the wind was making them ache (after the adrenaline wore off!). Anyone have any tips to shield the ears, without the use of sweatbands? smile
