What Bike Thread (Sorry)

2 Weeks ago I bought my first ever road bike, A B'Twin Triban 3 White. Today was my second time out on it when I road it up to a place 7 miles away from my house (Ogden Water Reservoir) I chained it up to the cycle racks and set straight off on a 45min run only to return to no bike and just a broken padlock on the floor.

The last time I was at Ogden Reservoir I found a wallet full of money and went out of my way to return it to its rightful owner so it would appear as though Karma isn't working properly. I'd also just picked it up from a gear tune and fit some new lights and a bottle holder to it, it was also my birthday but I'm beginning to digress a bit now.

Anyway, I was quite happy with the bike but I'm now in the market for another 11 days after buying my first and I wondered if there's anything better for under £400?

I was told by the bloke in the shop when I was buying mine that the B'Twin Triban 3 new models in white aren't as good as the first red ones that came out as the gears aren't Shimano nor do they have the carbon forks but you can't really get hold of the 1st generation red one now anyway.

Are those Carrera TDF in Halfords at £329 any good? I'd rather buy a new bike than a slight better second hand one I think.

I spent ages looking for a red triban 3 or considering a white one or a tdf,i think a white triban 3 and the tdf are on a par and sadly unless your very small the red 3s have gone.

Carreras are ok for the money, all on the heavy side though. The TdF doesn't have a compact chainset and 25 max on the back iirc if that matters to you.

It's a good time to buy with the change over sales going on. If you could find a bit more this looks like great value, better than your old bike, be quick though sale time is no time for dithering.
