Winters Here - What lights?

After a ride out Tuesday evening I discovered my lighting is woefully inadequate, we were having to ride in a staggered line so that we could use the bike behinds light to see where we were going :blush:

So, I've decided to do it properly and get myself some serious lights what does everyone recommend?

I commuted last winter along an unlit cyclepath using a Lezyne light. It allowed me to see where I was going and avoid wildlife, fallen foliage, dog walkers and other cyclists. Others recommend the Cree lights.

For people who have the Ebay Cree jobbies... How long does the battery last? Do you have different power settings that affect battery life?

Oh and are they fine on the road, or too dazzling to oncoming cars? I know you can point them downwards, but I also want to see where I'm going

It has different power settings. I've done 2 hour rides with no problem at all - they're pretty good.

If you were to shine it up, yes it would dazzle, but point it towards the floor and it's fine

After last night's ride around the decently wide lanes where I live and having at least 5 oncoming cars not bothering to dip their headlights leaving me completely blind I've got one of those Cree's on order.

Does anyone know if you can change the brightness while riding so you can flash a car not dipping?

Another question. At £150 a pop, are they really that much better than the £50 ones?

Yup. can't remember if 2 or 3 brightness modes, and flashing mode too (which will give anyone within 10miles epilepsy)

A little wheelie with a turn off the bars often works

Off - low beam - high beam - epilepsy mode.

Haven't used mine since about April, still got charge in the battery.

Mine arrived this morning. Some instructions would have been nice!

No matter, not had lights with seperate battery pack before. Where do folk think is the best place for the battery?

On the bike? In jersey pocket?

I mount mine below the stem and take up loose wiring with a couple of strategically placed slap wraps.

Bumped into a guy with a bottle cage mount, which looks like a great idea...

I bought the 2400 (2x 1200 Lumen front lights) kit last year and can vouch for it being excellent.
