So.. New bike arrives tomorrow (woohoo!) and as it's worth more than my car* I'd like to make a slight effort in securing it.
I have an outside shed, standard wooden affair with a simple padlock. It's up against a solid brick wall so I was thinking of attaching a shackle to the wall then passing a chain into the shed from the back to secure the bike to.
The shed will sit against the wall so the shackle won't be visible at all.
Only question is, what chain to get? I would probably need 2-3m or so, all the 'security' chains are super expensive.
I just want something that will dissuade the opportunist with bolt cutters, if they turn up with a petrol grinder then I'm sure they will get it
Any recommendations on a chain and lock combo? This is just for the shed, not out and about.

Tbh I'd put it in the house!! That's where I keep mine.
Opportunists will be put off by decent security but those going equipped will get through anything unless you spend a lot.
Plus the better security the more it advertises that there is something decent inside , like a vicious circle

House is a no-go unfortunately. (Chewy dog..)
Ground anchor won't work either as it's a limestone floor beneath and I can't go about drilling big holes in that. The wall should be reasonably secure I'd have thought, it'll be hidden behind the shed so it'll only be seen if the scrote breaks in.
Then if they are really determined of course they'll get it, but the random scrote with a big screwdriver and bolt cutters should be prevented..right?

I use a Pragmasis 13mm chain with a Squire SS50CS and in my case a Pragmasis Shed Shackle. 2m chain does three bikes, and is heavy enough to resist croppers, but not so big its own weight damages the bikes.

Line the shed with remesh (used for concrete floors) one sheet will set you back £50 ish and by the time the scrotes made noise getting into the shed he has an inner skin to deal with and none of the right tools.
Normal security from the outside and you can padlock the mesh together inside with as many big buggers as you like.

Funnily enough I had a steel bedframe in the shed till the other day, used to d lock bikes to it.Ironically I've moved it to make space for another bike.... :-)

What sort of sh!tholes do the PH massive live in ?
I forget to lock house doors regularly, rarely lock the garage etc
Is it not easier to move to a better area, Either toooooo many people are over paranoid and live in a fear which must be a horrible way to live your life or I still live in niave bliss after 15 years living on the outskirts of a major City.

On the contrary, I live in a very nice area. That's why all the scum know that the houses have nice stuff in them.I forget to lock house doors regularly, rarely lock the garage etc

We've had three break-ins in the street this summer, all in broad daylight.

Try getting insurance on a bike that's been nicked with no lock.I forget to lock house doors regularly, rarely lock the garage etc

We have the lowest crime rate in the UK here but the most expensive properties outside Central London. But it doesn't hurt to be cautious.
