looking for a bit of advice , going to be tackling some hills and want to change my current set up of both chain rings and cassette , present set up is a standard Campagnola 2006

Bottom bracket 102mm. thread 36x24, Carbon =/set 172.5mm length crank with 53x39 chainrings, carbon front derailleur =braze-on fitting), short cage rear derailleur, Carbon Ultra 10 speed ergo levers = including Campagnolo gear/brake cable set ), record brake callipers in black finish, Ultra 10 speed chain with hollow pins, 1/2 =i-cassette 12-25 ratio

ideally fitting campagnola 50/34 chain rings and a 10 speed 13/29

cant find direct campag record 10 speed replacements they all seem to be 11 speed !!

would the following fit chain rings fit as direct replacements bolted to my existing carbon cranks ?

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/campagnolo-veloce-50t-chai...

Campagnolo Record/Chorus 34T Chainring

Campagnolo Veloce 50T Chainring

alternatively would it be possible to keep the 53 and replace the 34 and end up with 53/34 combination

for the cassette it would be cheaper to use the Campagnolo Veloce 10 Speed Cassette at 35 quid compared to the record one at 188 quid , would this be compatible

apreciate any advixce thanks

Not massively familiar with Campagnolo so I could well be wrong, BUT:

You can't fit 50/34 (compact) rings onto 53/39 (standard): the PCD's all wrong (110mm vs 130mm) IIRC the smallest you can get on a 130mm is a 38. You'll need to change the cranks.

As above. You would be better going for a cassette with a 28.

Put simply you cant just swap the rings on a "real man's chainset"
You need to buy a whole new 'compact' with cranks and 50/34 rings

Id suggest going 28T on the rear cassette and seeing how you get on
If in need of wussier gears then go ahead and fit a compact, but you may be pleasantly surprised

cheers

COI: ride a wussy compact with 28T cassette smile

thanks , its interesting looking at the difference in ratios for hills comparing the 3 chain rings standard / compact / triple ring

according to the table the lowest ratio i can achieve on my 53/39 12/25 would be 39/25 = ratio 1:56 on a compact with the same cassete 50/34 12/25 34/25 = ratio 1:36 ,
by changing my cassette to a 13/29 would give me 39/29 a ratio 1:34 , very similar to the compact .

looks like I will change the rear cassette only ..............then lose a few kilos

cheers

edit to add interesting video showing Contador using a 34/32 set up ratio of 1:06 !!!!!

no wonder i struggle

Difference being he was riding up the Angliru, which I'm guessing you're not wink
28 first, 39-28 is enough for most people on most things.
