What vintage ladies bike?

So, mother has decided that her perfectly good 1990s bike that has done, ooh, 200 miles in 17 years, is no good any more. It's a Crusader California solid frame/solid fork job with 18spd shimano and running on tarmac tyres - so not exactly unsuitable for the gentle tarmac rides on deserted country roads that she has taken up as a hobby.
Anyway, she absolutely must have a retro/vintage women's bike. A Pashley would be lovely but is too expensive. So she currently likes the look of this:

Anyone had a probike product before? Are they any good? it looks wrong to me because it has derailleur gears rather than a hub gear, but I presume thats one of the reasons why it is a fair bit cheaper. My main concern though is that the sit up and beg riding position isnt very good for actually putting any power into your pedalling? Thus it would be harder to ride up hills? Or is that a load of rubbish?

Anyway, if it isnt very good, are there any decent similar alternatives?

If you look at the LBS I recommended in the Name and Fame thread he does kind of specialise in these sorts of bikes. In Worcester mind so not that convenient to you.

As an aside, I'm guessing the current bike is fairly worthless to sell on? Are Crusader a budget make?
