New 2014 Boardman Range at Halfords

Just noticed Halfords website is listing the new Boardman range. The "Team" model is now a slightly lower spec, and they now have one called a "Road Pro" which looks almost identical in spec and price to the old "Team carbon" (which I have). Sadly that gets a rather dull grey/silver paintjob...
Also a very sexy Road Pro SLR at £1800... *wants*

Edit - and they are listing the new MTB range too. Sad to see they have followed the fashion and gone 29er for the hardtails and 650b for the full sussers...

The new SLR does look rather sexy :-). If I hadn't just upgraded to a 2010 pro carbon a couple of weeks ago I'd be very very tempted...

I was holding on for the CX models, but really not impressed with what I see - not a fan of the new colour schemes either.

Went to have a look at these yesterday in Halfords, lovely looking bike.. The few bike mechanics at my local Halfords are brilliant, very enthusiastic and helpful. Will be looking at buying a 2014 Road Pro when the winter is over

I dropped into Chingford earlier - one of their three flagship stores - expected them to have the full range. No. Was informed that "we haven't got them yet". Disappointing.

Later, I had cause to be in Harlow, so dropped into that Halfords too: again, no 2014 bikes. Said to a girl that I'd expected them to have the new Boardman bikes in. She proceeded to point at a couple of mountain bikes: "these two are new"... Well, they might have been freshly delivered but they weren't the 2014 model. Apparently they'll have the road and CX bikes in soon but I can order online and they'll build it up for me... Well, isn't that nice. WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING A SHOP IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT THE MODELS IN, I MIGHT AS WELL BUY ONLINE FFS.

The hardtails are available in 650b wheel sizes too. Must say, I'm disappointed in the lack of 26" option though. Don't get on with 29ers and probably never will.

The bikes have been out for around a week...I fail to see why you're expecting every shop to have the full new range out on display already?
I put mine out on display yesterday, although I'm a tiny store and only stock 3 comp models.

I was all set to buy a boardman hard tail as an xc hack and change my DH bike with the savings as they are great value,however having been riding 26" wheeled mtb since 1991 I'm not about to follow the sheep on to a 29 so I'm out!

Yeah I bought a s/h CX recently and there is nothing much in it. If you buy one for £600 or so and add a decent set of wheels you'll still be under budget and have a better package. Oh, and if you do buy from Halfords take it apart when you get home!

I don't expect every shop to have all 27 bikes in all sizes. I do expect there to be one of each of the biggest sellers in the flagship shop though. Otherwise I might as well just buy from Canyon or Ribble.

They have just come out, patience is a virtue!
2 minutes on Halfords stock finder will confirm who has them in..

Just ordered a 2014 fi roadie for my other half, her first road bike.

Delivery Tuesday to store and with the 10% discount and 10% British cycling its pretty decent at £400 and shrapnel.

Unfortunately they are a little thin on the ground, especially in medium or small.
Definitely want one though to replace my carrera tdf as "backup / winter bike", with a bit of cross country ability as a bonus (plus commonality of group set with my pro carbon would be nice if I can find a SRAM equipped model)

Ordered the 2014 Team FS yesterday. £999+10% off plus Cycle2work = £612 for a decent spec full suss!

Basically yep :-) the geo is on the Boardman site btw for the models Halfords dont show it

...and annoyingly, the size I suspect I want is the 51.5cm TeamCX, based on the top tube length and using my road bike geo as a template. And Halfarsed don't stock the 51.5cm, it seems.

Also: if you order online it seems you have to pay online, so how do you get the BC discount?

You should be able to order in store. Alternatively, you should be able to order online, get a refund in store at point of picking it up, and then buy again (using BC discount). Call the store in advance to make sure they know that's the plan, and/or email customers services at head office to check they will do that (print off the email to wave in front of the check-out monkey's face in case theres any dispute)

Pretty much everytime ive used my BC discount ive been asked "so.... what is 10% then?". Trouble is, im too honest...

I've just ordered one in store for my gf, payment on collection.
A - because she is paying for it
B - so I can use the British cycling discount

They are also fitting some gatorskins and matching the online offer price for me.

If you pop in and ask you shouldn't have any issues (emphasis on shouldn't)

PS you may want to check the Halfords item code online for the exact model and size you want, they are apparently not all on the system and need manually looking up. Might save time and potential confusion...

I know I've said this on here before, but the fact that Halfords' policy won't allow you to ride a bike before you buy it puts me off. Board man have a great product but no matter how good I wouldn't drop that sort of money on a bicycle I can't ride first.

Halfords Bracknell let you ride a bike (if they have one on display) - you just have to ask/arrange when a suitable time would be. What they wont do is order in a top of the range carbon model in your particular size, just so you can take it for a ride, as it sounds like they have to buy the stock.
