Self sealing tubes?

Has anyone any experience of these so called self sealing tubes? Third puncture in 2 weeks and frankly, starting to get a bit pissed of with it all.

The 2 main ones I have noticed are,

I used Stans in my winter bike when commuting. Changing a wheel at 6am when it's dark, below freezing, and you're in Harlesdon is not much fun. It worked for anything up to about 5-6mm gash at which point it gave up the ghost.

I have used both and if I was to recommend any it would be the Slime ones as opposed to the Dr Sludge ones. Had a few issues with the Dr Sludges ones not sealing very well. Although there isn't many recommendation for Halfrauds you may find the Slime ones cheaper there on their 3 for 2 deal.

Just fitted the slime tube on the rear. Only seem to get rear punctures, is that normal?

Anyway, 20 miles covered, and the wheel is still hard.

The rear wheel takes a lot more weight than the front as a rule. It also tends to get slammed into pot holes that you might lift the front wheel over.

Been using the slimes on the work bike for a while now. couple of points to note
- they are much heavier (does change the feel of the bike esp when setting off from a stand still)
- once they have gone they are gone .. cant be repaired so if you get a number of large punctures it can get expensive

having said that i have a small 2-3mm gash in my front tyre where i can see the 'slime' is oozing from (having meaning to fix for 2-3 weeks) very gradually but it is still rideable

on balance i now use as being late and trying to change a tyre with numb fingers is a complete @rase, which i would rather pay a bit more to avoid. Also if you spend your week riding heavy wheels the weekend bike feels amazing!
